I stood stone-like at midnight, suspended in my masquerade
I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone and came out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, but when they said, “Sit down, “ I stood up
Ooh...growin’ up

Blurry screen. My first to leave has gone off to college a mere 2 hours away. He was the most fun to raise and we all miss him each day he is gone.

Indeed! Thanks for posting. My 3rd is in his last year of high school. My second is in a second year of college and my oldest is to have a baby any day now! I resonated greatly with the author!

Thank you for posting this.

Can’t completely relate, but my time is coming up. Our oldest turned 14 yesterday and since becoming a 9th grader... we see a lot less of him already. We’re proud of what he is accomplishing and the activities he’s a part of, but my wife and I already feel it coming. We know growing up and out is part of life, know he’s on the right track, know we’re doing best we can with him, but our time with him is growing short.

It’s all good things, but it still stings.

” I stood at the door and listened to her cry for me — sure that my heart was going to break. Eventually, she would stop crying. I would peak into the room and see her playing with the other children, and off I would go. Still, my mind remained focused on her crying — even though she had moved on and was having fun.” As a woman who volunteers in nursery...your kid may stop crying but they desperately miss their mom. Don’t put them in daycare
