Had an experience about the same time period, maybe it was 1977. It was an actual craft,viewed at the same time as my wife, sister and BIL. People ask why no pics, let me try and explain. When encountering the view of a UFO, something beyond explanation, a person become star struck, no pun intended. You become so involved in the viewing, the thought of recording it never comes to mind. When it is over, then you think about why you didn’t.
The only thing we had in those days would have been a 110 pocket camera. I was doing 80mph at midnight on that highway dodging jack rabbits. When the thing zoomed up on my ass, thats when I woke up the others in the car. Even if we had been able to take a picture, it wouldn’t have shown any more than I described.
