We play soccer?
Who knew?
The cameras really love to focus on them; odd when you consider that unlike the women’s team, I’m not aware of a deviants on the men’s team. In an attempt to “normalize” the craziness and broaden its appeal, I saw some flags that had the stars in the upper left, then stripes that were rainbow on one part and “blue lives matter” on the other.
No reason to politicize this sport; takes some of the hurt out of last night’s loss.
I actually was rooting more for Poland during their run. Now I can unabashedly root for them in Russia.
And nothing will be sweeter than Poland winning a World Cup on Russian soil.
Well, being that the NFL has essentially become an un-American sport, maybe we should give soccer a second look.
I’ve followed Iceland’s national team over the past two decades. They’ve held their own against World Cup champs and European finalists in most of their matches.
This match comes to mind

They’d usually come within 4 or 5 points of qualifying for major tournaments. Obviously the win against England wasn’t a fluke. What this pattern of upsets shows is that with this sport, the tide can turn on a dime and just because you have All-Star players doesn’t guarantee a victory. The cohesion/harmony with a team is much more important and vital to the final result with soccer than it is with other sports - where one ball-hog can carry a team.
That Honduras & Costa Rica gave the US & Mexico fits shows that the smaller teams have come a long way.
>>Well, being that the NFL has essentially become an un-American sport, maybe we should give soccer a second look.<<
The 2 games have nothing in common except they both are played with a ball. And even the balls are dissimilar.
I love the game of football. I just despise the NFL (and have never cared for college ball).
Those rich spoiled bastards have stolen my great love from me.
Can’t tell if that is sarcasm or not?
But I think you’ll see that in the next 10 years MLS will become the #1 sport in this country.
Kids these days are buying Christian Pulisic jersey’s much more than any NFL/NBA jersey that I can tell. And every game I’ve been to this year with the exception of one has been sold out.
I wish they would too.
...and Tobago!
>Sunil Gulati who heads the US Soccer Federation needs to be fired. He has failed to remove nepotism and cronyism. Also youth soccer players who have parents with big money are given priority over inferior soccer players in Olympic Development Programs for youth US Soccer. Not good. Moreover, in the US, soccer is a sport where its near impossible for youth to even kind of/sort of develop properly unless your parents have money for expensive soccer trainers, travel, camps, and endless fees. Its expensive to be on a Division 1 youth soccer team. And then there is the idiotic idea that our best players need to play in the MLS, rather than develop in 1st or 2nd division European leagues. Dumbest thing ever. Finally, Bruce Arena sucks... he needs to be shitcanned. We can do sooo much better. Hes worse than Klinnsmann. These are the bulk of the problems in US Soccer. Of course there are many more. Speaking as a former UNC Chappell Hill Mens soccer player.
This is correct. ODP is messed up and select/club soccer favors the rich. We have a limitless amount of talent that goes nowhere because of poor succession management.
Yeah like that makes a big deal
USA soccer, pathetic.
We have some great players
We have very bad national organization.
real Americans don’t play soccer....its a fag socialist sport
Why do the governing bodies for soccer in Canada and the US make it EASY for the other countries to beat us?
Let me explain.
We’re in the North American Division. Besides Canada and the US, every other country in our division is a hot-weather country.
So why the h do any Canadian qualifying matches always happen in August - exactly the type of weather those other players are used to and love? Where they perform best?
Let them compete in Edmonton or Newfoundland in November, and they can enjoy the oncoming Canadian winter - then let’s see how good they play when their teeth are chattering.
Similarly, this match should’ve been held in Denver or Montana - let’s see how well Caribbean players perform in THAT weather.
Use all our advantages, stop making it easy for them!!
Your post hit the nail on the head. This has been my complaint about soccer for a long time. Add to your list that coaches that try to pick a team based on talent and measurable skills get drummed out of the club system, leaving the politically oriented that further wreck the system.
Not qualifying with the sheer number of U18 teams that exist in the US should rock US soccer from top to bottom. But they will probably do nothing. Soccer is prime for a Billy Bean type to come in and revamp it top to bottom.
Panama was given a clearly bad goal; we will probably make an appeal but I doubt if it will be reversed.

They can’t replay the games, unfortunately, this will all likely stand. It wasn’t outright cheating just bad refereeing; and after we beat Panama 4-0 the other night, Friday.
Enjoy your kneelers.
I’m going to say that even though one can say, “oh you didn’t beat Trinidad and Tobago?”, if we played in Europe, we’d probably have a very tough time in qualifications.
But my view, is that virtually every country, even the powerhouses such as Germany, Italy and Spain, will have a bad run from time to time. Look at Netherlands? They aren’t in the World Cup, England (I know England) missed the 2008 Euro and ‘94 World Cup. Even Italy missed the 1992 Euro.
Brazil got blown off the pitch in the 2014 World Cup they hosted.
I guess, I’m saying I will look at this philosophically, besides, the refs clearly gave Panama a bad goal that helped eliminate us.
This is what happens when you are constantly glorifying homosexuality.
Most normal men do not want to participate in a sport that pays so much attention to homosexuals, rainbow jerseys and pride day events.
The losses will continue until they make it a macho sport. I don’t see that ever happening, so might as well get used to all the losses.
Baseball, Hockey, NHL, have all indulged in this pride thing. So that’s a bs excuse.
Not sure about the NFL, but now, we have disrespecting the flag; problems are going to be in the NBA and NFL, in the fact, that most of the athletes are African American.
Soccer remains the World’s game, you don’t necessarily have to be big, tall, etc. to win but it does rely on skill.
Last 3 champions of the World Cup, Germany, Spain and Italy. Enough of the bs excuses that the best athletes are in the NFL.
I really don’t care what happened with Panama. In the end the US got exactly what they deserved.
