I had a judge once tell me that it was hard to get juries to convict on DWI because too many of the jurors identified with the perps, thinking there but for the grace of God go I.

A few years ago I was called to jury duty.I reported to the specified courthouse and was sent to a waiting room with a few dozen other people.I,and others, were eventually herded into a courtroom where a DUI trial was about to start. The judge told us that we should speak up if we felt we shouldn't be a juror in that trial.I raised my hand and was called to the judge's podium where several lawyers were gathered and told them that I had a niece who was killed by a drunk driver.Immediately everyone there basically said,in unison,"no,he should be excused".So then the judge said I was free to go.I asked him if I could stay and watch the trial and he said "yes".

Long story short, after having heard the prosecution's start witness being questioned by the prosecutor (the state cop who pulled the guy over and took him to the cell) it sounded to me like he was trying to help the defense.IOW,I think I might have voted "not guilty".

And I'm a 100% teetotaler...and always have been.
