Anyone with some free time should search "Kai Tak" on youtube for videos of landings at Hong Kong's former airport. On my first landing there I didn't know *anything* about it and when the pilot made one the sharp turns that Kai Tak was famous for I literally thought I was gonna die.

Those turns are probably where the phrase "Kai Tak Heart Attack" came from.

And you're so low and close to apartment buildings you can actually see into apartments...I had a window seat during that first landing.

You can get a similar experience at DC’s Reagan National Airport if the weather is bad and the approach is an ILS approach from the north. The aircraft is low enough and close enough to see the folks working in the tall building in Roslyn that’s next to the Iwo Jima memorial.

I nailed that landing at Kai Tak in Flight Simulator 2004...

...of course I ripped the wings off of 6 747's, put a couple more in the drink overshooting the runway, smashed some perfectly nice residential buildings with a few others..."virtually" killed thousands,

...but eventually, I nailed that checkerboard sucker!
