OMG!!! I read about that most foreboding of features of fast-moving hurricanes — the central white BLOB. It means everyone in it’s path will be curshed! I’m going down in the cello!

Hurricane Nate is being RADICALISED.

That leaves it off the FBI radar.

Most of the forecasts remain the same. Cantori is here but has not made any special "I'm oh-so-concerned" statements.

We're dead center for projected path (Jackson County MS) and still expecting a 85-90 MPH winds at worse. Some years ago we had a Cat 2 (Georges) hit but it lingered for a long time which made a lot of trees fall over from super saturation (ground had already been saturated and it dropped about 17" locally - this should be a lot easier to deal with and nothing like a Katrina or any of the other "3 Amigos" that we just watched..

I lived about 8 miles north of Long Beach when Georges came ashore and stalled. We were in the eyewall for what seemed like hours and hours. Ripped my roof to shreds and downed dozens of large pines. It was a beast despite being a relatively weak storm.

If Nate continues to dash forward at 22 MPH, it will have less time to do serious damage. The surge is what I fear, 9 feet forecast so far. Karina wiped me out, lost home and business to the surge.

Most of my family and friends are in the cone. My niece lives on the river in Gulfport. I think she has evacuated by now.

Be safe...lots of prayers going up for y’all.

Thanks for the sentiments. We had 13" of water in our house (western edge of Gautier and 1/4 mile S. of 90) during Katrina.

Our house is surrounded by a nice wooded area which protects the house pretty well during a Cat 1/weak Cat 2 type storm. During Georges, we could watch the tree tops getting blasted while standing in a strong "breeze" at ground level. If this puppy keeps up the speed, of travel, we will be OK (barring tornadoes) but some structure may take some extra damage.

Latest forecasts show us anywhere fro dead center to possible western edge of eye-wall as they coalesce into narrower expected tracks. Keeping our fingers crossed and praying nobody gets killed/ruined.

Didn't board up but secured all the loose stuff and have plenty of water/food/flashlights (basic hurricane kit) and plenty of propane for the grill if power is out for any significant amount of time - hoping to keep power or have it up quick if it drops - they have gotten really good in this area - only went w/o power for 4-1/2 days after Katrina which was freaking amazing.

Pretty calm now - just took a cruise along the beach in Ocean Springs and not much wind, wave action or water elevation - gonna change over the next 8-12 hours though.

If you do the calculation, it reflects about an extra -10 degrees F. The storm is topped by a high pressure bubble so it is pretty cold up there. Around -125F.

...went w/o power for 4-1/2 days after Katrina...

Stayed with my sister in Grand bay after Katrina. We were without power for about 2 weeks. Some folks in rural areas of Jones County were without for nearly 2 months.

I lived just a block off the beach in Pass Christian at the time. Nothing left.

Yep, with this one it will be the surge. Dauphin Island got slammed so badly with Katrina and looks as though it will again.

We had friends living in the Kiln that had same effects.

Latest now has it hitting Cat 2 before landfall and moving at 26 MPH - probably gonna be a bit more damage than earlier predicted and new storm surge predictions are 11 ft vs. 8 ft.
