All the clowning and burlesquing aside, that tune (not the words) sounds very much the kind of hymns wed sing at church when I was a child. The song was written by the famous showman Meredith Willson. In 1958, he actually called our home to make sure my father--a music teacher and choir director--my mother and myself got complimentary tickets to the Los Angeles premiere of his show The Music Man. Seeing that show was an unforgettable experience for me.
