A kid who sits around all day at a video terminal does not risk going out and having him and his parents ridiculed which is the story here and it’s terrifying.

We’re so ready to say it’s bad to say the maid always did that or no I can’t function in society at ten years old how independent do you want me to be before I’m an adult

But I think the worst is for a person in the role of instructor to judge the students’ mother. To in any way ridicule her. It’s a kids worst fear. And the kid will either withdraw and not learn, hate the instructor, or join in and despise the mother.

The leader who leads without dragging kids’ mothers into it, either during or after, in a judgemental gossip session, is the one the kid will respect and learn from

Which brings us back to what Melania said

“...first and foremost, parents’ responsibility to raise their children to be moral, charitable, and to have love of country.”

Which entails not allowing ones’ child to have leaders who would disrespect tge parent

The lifeguard at our local beach taught us how to raise and lower and fold the flag. And properly, with respect. He left our parents out of it. He could have thought “where are these kids’ parents all day tgat these urchins are here before I even have my coffee?” But he put us to work I know how to hose off the boardwalk, how to use a master key, how to put a deck chair together and not to run on the pier and why it’s especially dangerous

And not one snarky word about my mother

It’s why I remember that lifeguard his name, where he went to college, his lovely mother, and what his father did for a living

My mother made sure I was around good people. That was what her important job was. Making sure she married a good provider so we could have those advantages.

If you can point out exactly where in my original comment I said anything about my friend ridiculing the child I will back off.

I said he told me the story. I never said he ridiculed the kid. He patiently taught the young whippersnapper how to wield a broom.

That’s how we both roll

Apparently in your world we’re not allowed to tell funny stories of things that happened years before either.

I think there’s a high horse you need to step down from.

And, BTW, what Melania said can be found in biblical teaching. St Pope John Paul II found it and repeated it

Here’s the compendium

It is within the family where children are raised and formed as human beings. The parental role in this human formation is governed by love, a love which places itself “at the service of children to draw forth from them (”e-ducere”) the best that is in them” and which “finds its fullest expression precisely in the task of educating.” (Compendium, No. 239) The family is the “first school”

You are a ten year old kid. You take a chance and go to a youth group where people might be Christian as they portend or they are hypocritical envious gossips or some other combination of nasty

You are told, in front of others to do something you don’t know how to do. You can’t fake it so you come out with honesty. I don’t know how to do that.

The leader can do what he’s supposed to do, what he professes he’ll do and say “oh not a problem come on.” Plus he’ll tell the other kids to mind their own business and quit making fun of others, making it a safe place for you, as is his job

Or he can have the attitude of, “oh geeze. Another kid whose parents expect me to do my job and help teach this kid to make it in the world. Why can’t everyone be perfect and be raised on a farm. Don’t people know that’s the only way to be raised properly?”

This is where you brought us in on the story. Tge youth group leader has that attitude. My question is, did he do his job and teach the ten year old

That’s all

My new question is did he, when he repeated the story, make sure that the child, the child’s parents, any other kid in the group, any of the parents associates could not hear him. Because that would have been damaging. Gossip works that way

” He patiently taught...” not if he was whining about it

The story he told was how the parents werent doing their job well enough for his judgement

Teach the kid how to use the broom. That’s the job of a youth leader. Why talk about it? There’s no story. Other than feeling superior because he knew how to do everthing in life to everyones’ satisfaction by the time he was ten

We were raised very much the same way!
My first “jobs” on the farm were looking after the chickens, throwing hay bales from the loft (I was small and nimble and could climb up the side of the barn easier) and lugging drinking water from the spring to the fields for the men.
Then I graduated to real work.

Our only phone was a party line that two old biddies would tie up all day every day.

The only thing we bought at the grocery store was flour, salt, sugar, coffee, tea and citrus fruit in season.

We got milk from our cows and made our butter with the cream. All our meats were raised by us as well as every vegetable we ate.
We also had apple, peach, pear and cherry trees.

Sunday GLORIOUS Sunday.
The ONLY day of rest.
Get up, have a cup of coffee, feed the cattle, horses, hogs and chickens. Then have breakfast, take a bath and go to church.
We had a real preacher that taught us not only of The Lamb of God but also about the Lion of Judah.

Then home for dinner and some rest.
Back to church Sunday night for bible study.

A wonderful way of life.

OK one more time. I’m going to type slowly so you understand. He told me the story several years later. Do you get it?

Are you sure?

Amazing how life was back then, I wish I could zap me and my remaining children back to those times...how easy life was back then...(easy being nothing outside what we were doing)...

Kids now can't walk more than 10 steps or open a can of fruit to eat, or turn on a washing machine...

(Our only phone was a party line that two old biddies would tie up all day every day.) I was never allowed to talk on the phone, it was business only, things with running the farm etc.

(We got milk from our cows and made our butter with the cream. All our meats were raised by us as well as every vegetable we ate.
We also had apple, peach, pear and cherry trees.) Same thing with me...we raised produce for Green Giant, learned how to bottle, can and prepare meat...the old washing machine with the wringer and tubs full of hot steaming water, out to the clotheslines...oh the smell of fresh sheets, towels scruffy to dry yourself on...

The homemade whipped cream on top of a real homemade apple or cherry pie after a dinner that you couldn't find anywhere these days, homemade biscuits, oh boy...yep, my kids know how to do all this, even cook outside on a tripod over a fire...

“I adore our First Lady. It doesn’t take a damn village.”

You are right, it takes a man and a woman who get married, have children, and rear them with Christian moral values.

my question was did the gossipy judgmental youth group leader do his job and teach the kid to use the broom.

You didn’t say yes or no. Probably because you got caught taking part in being judgemental about a kid and his parents for his not being able to manage a particular household chore at 10 years old

But you wouldn’t have to type fast or slow to say yes or no.

Divorces do this to children.

Read a new book where the adult children of divorce speak out — Primal Loss compiled by Leila Miller.

Someone here on FR told me “you never get to live in the world you grew up in “.
It is sadly so.

I am like you, wishing for the past.
Kids today have no idea what they are missing.
Real food
Real work
Real freedom
Real satisfaction
A life centered around God, family and country.

You may wish to reread post 42. I clearly stated that he patiently taught the lad how to wield a broom.

You may also wish to refrain from calling one of the most dedicated men I know a gossipy, judgmental youth leader.

Sharing stories of events that happened in the past about people you don’t know does not fit into the definition of gossip. It does however fit into learning how to deal with upcoming situations that may occur. you know, training.

I would appreciate your refraining from showing your ignorance and judgmental attitude toward me and my friends. When you are giving up hundreds if not thousands of hours per year volunteering to help kids out, not to mention spending large amounts of money to do it you will be free to voice your opinion. Till then...

I adore our Melania, too.

She’s constantly revealing herself to be a great representative for the United States and quite the trooper—look at all the places she’s visited lately.

No diva demands or tantrums from our beautiful First Lady.

” I clearly stated that he patiently taught the lad how to wield a broom.”

You mean here:
“No, he didn’t teach him. He duct taped the broom to his hands and made the boy walk around all day dragging the broom.”

You should let this go and get back to looking at what Melania said. Something about this is really bugging you
