Sounds like a trip I took coming home from Florida to Connecticut when I was 14. Tampa to Tallahassee to Atlanta to Hartford. It was an Eastern Airline flight, but whoever got me that flight was not thinking. Eastern had a non stop from Tampa to Hartford...and so did Northeast...

My first ride in a 747 was from Chicago to St. Louis of all places. What did it go, maybe to 25000 feet?

It actually was stopping at ORD from a London to St. Louis route on TWA. I needed to connect in STL. Just seemed funny to ride such a big bird like that for such a short trip.

Flew them a few times after that, like on a trip to Australia, so those were a bit longer.

I agree with the many posters who liked the L-1011. Maybe my favorite. I also got to fly on a Northwest Convair 580 in the late 80s. The thing was probably built in the 50s. Curtains in the windows. That was fun!

I think my first 747 trip was Chicago to Denver and for a similar reason to yours. Denver to Destination X was next on the agenda.
