5 pets also killed in house explosion to cover up wife's homicide, police say

MADISON, WI - Five pets were also found dead in the rubble of a house that was intentionally exploded by a husband who police believe killed his wife.

Steven Pirus is in custody for allegedly shooting his wife and attempting to cover up the crime with a house explosion, according to Madison police.

Madison police spokesperson Joel DeSpain said Monday three dogs and two cats were also found dead during the explosion investigation.

The couple's home on Stratton Way exploded Wednesday afternoon. Fire officials found the body of 50-year-old Lee Anne Pirus among the rubble.

An autopsy by the Dane County Medical Examiner shows Pirus died from homicidal firearm trauma, not injuries sustained from the blast. Koval said in the press conference Pirus was dead for weeks or months before the explosion.

Police confirmed Steven Pirus intentionally caused a natural gas leak to explode the house. Koval said Pirus admitted to shooting his wife then blowing up their home to cover up the homicide.

Pirus is being charged with first-degree intentional homicide, arson and reckless endangerment, Police Chief Mike Koval said in a press conference Sunday.

As of Sunday afternoon, Steven Pirus was in custody in the Dane County Jail, News 3 has confirmed.

The death is still under investigation by the Madison Police Department, Madison Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Does anyone elses eyes ‘ache’ after reading that garbled bunch of trash?

It reads like some guy learning English is reciting it and isn’t sure how to express himself

It used to be a ‘dead giveaway’ if receiving an email from a scammer that would start with I am Army Captain US. While it may be ‘correct’ that is just not how Americans speak.

homicidal firearm trauma

first degree intentional homicide

Well, it IS from, ‘The People’s Republik of Madistan.’

Socialist ‘Journalism’ at it’s best; I’m surprised they even printed ‘gun’ without getting the vapors, LOL!

Sad about this woman and her pets, though. Not cool blowing up your house IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOCK! The homes on either side are smoked, too. He’s lucky no one else died. But, I doubt that entered his thought process.

People who murder their spouse are obviously very low IQ. The first suspect police look into is always the spouse. Most get caught and end up with life in prison or execution. I will never understand why they do not just walk away or get a divorce. It is infinitely better alternative than capital punishment.

Okay, so I guess that these days killing one’s spouse is not outrageous enough. So they have to throw in the death of the pets to peg everyone’s horror meters?

“The guy never watched any detective or ME shows on TV? They can always tell doofus.”

Beau watches his step around me. He knows I live for psychological ops cop shows and murder mysteries on TV, as well as that being my favorite genre in books.

I tell him not to worry about it. He’ll NEVER see it coming. ;)

And yes, we DO own a wood chipper. And a chainsaw. And a tiller. And two big garden plots.

To this day, outside of the marshes of Florida, the best way I saw expressed to get rid of a body was when Orlick tried to put Pip in an industrial strength kiln. Nothing but dust would be left.

He was living with a corpse in the house for weeks or even months? And no one missed her?

I remember there was a guy here in the Phoenix suburbs who did this exact same thing to his family about 20 years ago. He was an outdoorsman who escaped into the wilderness. AFAIK, they never caught him.
