New clinical guidelines, released Wednesday, are expected to reshape veterinary care for trans-species children. The recommendations, written by an international veterinary team, ease previous restrictions so that pets who were assigned to the human species at birth can begin transition when their equivalent human age reaches 16 years. Thus at just over two calendar years old, individuals who identify as puppies are in dog years of an age equivalent to 16 human years and can begin K-9 or other species modification hormone and surgical therapy in order to physically transform their bodies. The guidelines, which are being updated for the first time since 2009, are expected to carry wide influence among veterinarians across the globe.

The Endocrine Society, which boasts the “largest global membership” in the field of endocrinology, released the guidelines. Co-sponsors include the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Society of Andrology, European Society for Veterinary Endocrinology, European Society of Endocrinology, Veterinary Endocrine Society and the World Professional Association for Trans-species Health.

Among the key changes: the veterinarians are reversing their position on “social transitions.” For the first time, the Endocrine Society acknowledges that young children may benefit psychologically from changing their hair and/or fur and clothing and/or collars to match the species they believe to be as opposed to the species they were assigned at birth. Another major shift: the authors of the clinical guidelines say that hormone treatment to change species may be beneficial for individuals with a human age younger than age 16. Previously, those drugs had generally been reserved for trans-species individuals 16 and over in calendar years. The shift is a controversial one that has some veterinarians and psychologists concerned that the new guidelines will encourage unnecessary transitions.

There problem that needs professional attention is a problem in the mind. A misguided, mental error of an obsession has been allowed to become an identity dysphoria where the mind, in error, rejects that actual, factual gender identity the person has.

Fixing a body that has nothing wrong with it is mutilation, not “correction”.

Yes they deserve sympathy, along with large, compassionate familial and professional doses of honesty - there is nothing wrong with their body, it is their obsession they need to dispose of. The earlier this is done all out, the sooner it can be ended. The longer it is accepted and entertained, the more the dishonesty is allowed to pretend it is “true”.
