Unfortunately some of those free channels have almost as many commercials as broadcast tv.
I dropped Hulu after they kept increasing the number of commercials. At first it was only a couple per hour show. Then 4. Then more. I don’t want to pay for commercial TV. Why people are paying for cable at all when all the channels are commercial I don’t know.
How do you like your Sling? I was seriously looking at it. Seems fine for places in the house where you have access to an Ethernet connection, but in places where it’s impractical to wire for Internet, or with an old CRT TV, there doesn’t seem to be a solution.
I hope they set it up better than some of the existing ad-supported movie/series websites.
I have tried several — including Hulu, Crackle, etc. About half-way through a movie, the service would stall. Most times, I had to reload the webpage, relocate the movie, and try to move to about the location where the stall occurred. The service would then play 8 to 10 ads — and stall out again.
The exasperation wasn’t worth the effort. I deleted links to most of the ad-supported services.

Yeah, I do just about anything — anything — to get away from those commercials. I don’t know if it’s my age or what, but my tolerance for getting bombarded with commercials is close to zero.
I long chided those idiots who paid for satellite radio... I have now had satellite radio for the past few years and will likely never go back simply because it is commercial free.
That free Roku stick offer may still be available.
Ads are annoying, but a small price to pay. Locally, we comment that when the digital replaced the older OTA waves, they need more channels in order to increase advertising revenue. Ads are insufferable, one after the other. MOST from our own government, the agencies and departments TPTB have created to ‘govern’ US. To pay for such, is no more than a slap in the face. Cable companies have been gouging subscribers for years. To view a free subscription and see advertisements takes a bit of the sting out of the slap.
Yes, indeed. I feel like such a dope for having cable all of those years.
When I cut the cord with my Roku, I had Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Sling. And once I realized how many free live TV apps there were, I let Sling go also.
As far as college football goes, most of the big games are on regular free TV. Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS.
My family doesn’t miss cable at all. I might miss the DVR when it comes to sports on regular TV and all, but considering everything else can be paused, it is not that big of deal.
My ROKU does not have XTV regardless of searching using various forms of ITV.
I do get a warning that it is a non-certified channel but does not allow adding XTV.
That is weird. We’ve had this channel for some time now. Did notice this weekend strange things going on in updating our system. Thought it due to the new ROKU channel being introduced. We have as our devise a Roku stick (cheapie - less than $50) and therefore not yet have access to the newer ROKU channel. Others here at FR have also subscribed to X-TV during the past year. Do you subscribe on your computer or on your ROKU device itself? Sounds like a temporary glitch in their system as we watched it this morning with no difficulty.
In the meantime, try this link to see if it might be of help.

Good Luck. Keep trying should it be just a temporary glitch and repaired soon. Progress does not come without a few detours along the way.
Thanks for the link - I clicked on the link and got the error message again.
I'll keep my Sling TV.
Took the path to the channel’s latest news while viewing X TV this afternoon. Apparently they have revised their latest update page to read: “this is only a provider of anything streamed on the net, stating they have no control over content, ownership, etc.”
New ruts in the legalities at ROKU, I assume. Keep checking. Something should break soon - one way or the other.
Back to Frasier.
Why don’t you pay the extra couple of bucks a month and go commercial free? That’s what I did.
My wife and I are what's known as 'late adopters', that is, we're usually slow to pick up on most new high tech gadgets.
Your comment caught my eye because even we got rid of our last CRT television years ago. They're becoming almost as rare as landline telephones these days.
ROKU ALERT - X-TV was pulled from the source today. Reason being given as third party copyright issues. Such a shame; this was our go to channel for just about everything.
Not surprised - recently saw on their x-tv information page their email addy for pay pal donations. Yandex....according to google, this Yandex reference is a search engine (similar to google and g-mail) located in where? RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA!!! Who knew?!
X TV has been pulled from the source - see my post #37
