The other day MeTV ran an old Hawaii Five-O episode where Ricardo Montalban played a Japanese character. They REALLY would have loved THAT one!

Ever see Mickey Rooney’s portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi—the Chinese upstairs neighbor—in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s?

It was so incredibly over-the-top that he apologized years later for any offense caused.

I thought it was a riot, but I’m that way.

Elizabeth Taylor played Cleopatra. There was hardly a minority role back then that was played by anyone who wasn’t white.

That was a good episode.

I liked how Sakura got scammed at the end.

That is if I am thinking of the right episode.

Don’t forget Montalban twice played a Sikh (Khan) in Star Trek.

Reminds me of how they have refused to show old Charlie Chan movies on TV, because the actors were made up to appear Chinese.

Apply these standards to TV, and no TV show older than about 20 years would be allowed. Ditto old movies. In fact, a film festival which has shown “Gone With The Wind” in Memphis for many years, has now deleted that movie from their lineup.
