I saw a little girl who spent all her tears, in a shelter squeezing her mothers fingers. The other hand held tight on her shirt, assuring herself she wouldnt be swept away again. Her face was dirty, wet hair strewn across her cheek like a scar from battle. The eyes were wide in a stance of frightened anticipation on whats next. No one could comprehend the horror of the monster that day. They dont teach that in Kindergarten.
Then someone asked her if she would like some ice cream. Her mouth blossomed, a smile hatched as her eyes turned down shy, but not before a twinkle rose unhindered. Her dampened shoe toed the floor, she looked up and gurgled relieved a Yes. Her head shook in approval, hopes that salvation had arrived. Everyone knows that monsters have no ability when faced with ice cream.
People looked on to this as innocence unveiled perspective. In a paper cup with a wooden spoon the world was held in a raised hand of ice cream to a smile. Her eyes closed slowly in a tranquil cheer. Then the smile became catching, leaping from one face to another. Eyes of strangers became locked in a new friends brief gaze. Crooked smiles nodding confirmation at the blessing they saw. A breeze from the heart exhaled serenity rooted in a quiet chuckle. A sanctuary was built for a moment in a shelter from the vantage of a childs eye. And it became everyones command post to keep the monster of choice held at bay.
Life is precarious at any moment unknowing. A house of cards by any inclination on its best day. Harvey, you were impressive in any estimation. Bless Your Heart. But someone should have warned you about Texans. Thats where we keep most of our heroes. You didn't count on the Cajun Navy. The South is where sturdy was fixin to put down roots long ago. When Houston became ground zero of defiant courage. That's when we had you on the ropes, humanity's right cross connected to turn the tide.
Dont Mess With Texas isnt some trite sentimentality. Its a warning of consequences youd rather not meet if you had a lick of sense. A way of life noble unrivaled. Texas is where pretense is called out, and tears wear camouflage. No one knows what tomorrow brings but Texas. Their character will dictate the outcome. Dont matter how much whoop ass needs to be administered, they got morn that than all git-out. Now the healing begins unchecked where charity, American style, becomes a virtue. The things taken for granted yesterday are center stage in tomorrows desire. A blanket, a nice pair of warm socks, something to call your own when you have nothing. And maybe some ice cream.
Beautiful story. God Bless.
God Bless Texas, and God Bless America

Observing large groups of muscle men moving house to house tearing out wet dry wall and carpets, is a sight to behold. They are men on a mission. Stay out of the way!
Hear hear!
