It's unclear what caused the technical issue.

For Instagram, people reported problems logging in, refreshing their news feed, posting to Instagram Stories, "liking" photos and more.

Seeing as the non-left of the country actually works Monday to Friday, Saturday would be the day to shut things down.
It’s very unusual for Malwarebytes to alert on this site. Just now, they mentioned “Toonarific” (or something close to that).
I have been on and off FB all day. No problems at all. I wonder where the problems were.
