Will this make NASA’s James Webb telescope obsolete before it gets off the ground?

Every deployed system is “obsolete”.

Well, the Webb Telescope will make the Hubble Telescope obsolete. The increased viewing distance will be simply amazing.

Of course the Webb Telescope will become obsolete at some point, but I’m sure this new technology will take a long time to mature.

Problem is, if the Webb Telescope doesn’t open properly or has any other issues when it reaches its stationary point in Space (approximately a million miles from Earth) it cannot be repaired.

That will be a real Fingers Crossed moment at NASA.

>>>Every deployed system is “obsolete”<<<

Just be sure they don’t name it the F-35.

Did you mean “macro” scale? I’d be good with that.

If needed to stop it all that’s needed is a man to operate a high tech rolled up newspaper or bedroom slipper.

I doubt it. The Webb launches next year. But ten or 20 years from now, who knows?

Every deployed system is “obsolete”.

OF COURSE, but NASA has drug it's feet for so long it is more than apparent that it has been "milking" The Webb Telescope. It is "now" scheduled to launch in 2018, but if the Lockheed invention proves to be a big breakthrough, then the costs of The Webb Telescope will be hard to justify.

The Webb launches next year.

I think the Webb Telescope has been delayed several times, so launch next year is not guaranteed.

Also frightening possibilities.

Like a spy satellite that can read the newspaper over your shoulder?
