DS9 definitely had some unique characters. I also liked the Odo character, but I also developed a liking to the O’Brien one; don’t know why exactly. Ah, and Gul Dukat as the complex, strangely likable bad guy. And while I’m at it, I might as well admit that my favorite sci-fi series was Battlestar Galactica, the new one. The Empire Strikes back was the only Star Wars movie I really liked (and I really liked it). Although the 1st wasn’t bad—but do you really need to build a 100 kilometer wide ship capable of blowing a planet to smitherines? Seems a bit overkill, when all you need to do is just wipe out all life. A really big nuke would do that, and could easily fit into a Corellian corvette. I would have a hard time deciding my favorite sci-fi movie overall, however. I might make a list of the potential candidates some day.

One of the saddest moments in TV. Damar murdered Dukat’s daughter right in front of him, and neither he or Kira killed him the first chance they could get. On another note, I sense you have a affinity for sci fi/comedy. A rare combination. You must have read Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy.

Don't know if you've seen this, but if you don't mind reading subtitles....

I haven’t read Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy. And I have no idea why. Pretty sure it’s in the hallway. I also own all of the old Battlestar Galactica, but haven’t watched it yet. How does the old compare with the new? And I can’t force myself through the first seasons of Voyager or Sentinel, both shows that I bought complete. On the other hand, I fell in love with Dr Who, Farscape and DS9 by buying them all, so I guess you win some...

"Hitchhiker's Guide" was equally great. Well, the books and the British TV mini-series were. The movie, not so much.

And, thanks to Tom Lehrer, I can probably still recite all of the elements in the Chemical table, though not in order. "There's Antimony, Arsenic, Aluminum, Selenium..."

Have to wait for later in the evening to see YouTube. Husband runs such a tight computer system that I can only watch on a standalone computer, and it’s currently turned off for the August heat. Sort of a computer for every purpose so we let a few go dark. On the other hand, we’ve never had a virus. I always watch with subtitles. Especially British. Farscape is driving me mad because no subtitles on the disks.

Oh, well I didn’t mention the youtube’s title. Star Wreck: in the Pirkinning. It’s a Star trek parody will some very good CGI. It’s Finnish I think.

I can give you my perspective. It's darker, but more realistic. The best CGI in any sci fi series. The storyline is continuous with some random elements in each episode. It took me a little getting used to since it's clearly a departure from the original series, but in my opinion it's wonderful. Some aspects are a little stupid but easily overlooked due to the overall quality. And the suspense is always kept high.

That is why I think DS9 was the best series because it recognized that sometimes a good ass kicking is the best solution!

Garak and Quark were the best!

“Let me tell you something about humans, nephew: They’re a wonderful, friendly people - as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working.”
“But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those friendly, intelligent, wonderful people...will become as nasty and as violent as the most blood-thirsty Klingon.”  Quark from: The Siege of AR-558

Bashir: “What I want to know is that out of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which one’s weren’t?”

Garak: “My dear Doctor they’re all true.”

Bashir: “Even the lies?”

Garak: “Especially the lies.”

"The truth is usually just an excuse for a lack of imagination."
--Garak, of course.
