For the first time in Harvard University’s history, the majority of students accepted into the incoming freshman class are not white, a milestone for an institution that prides itself on educating future presidents, CEOs, and world leaders.
But Harvard’s push to broaden the diversity of its student ranks comes as the Trump administration intensifies its focus on affirmative action policies and suggests it will investigate how colleges shape the racial makeup of their campuses.
The US Justice Department is preparing to redirect resources from its civil rights division toward investigating and suing universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to discriminate against white applicants, The New York Times reported this week.
On Wednesday, the Trump administration said it had no broad plans to investigate whether college and university admissions programs discriminate against students based on race and that it was looking into a single complaint from a coalition of Asian-American groups filed in 2015. The coalition filed an administrative complaint against Harvard University, alleging that the school and other Ivy League institutions are using racial quotas that shut out high-scoring Asians.
Still, news about the administration’s interest in affirmative action policies caught colleges off-guard and raised worries in academia and among civil rights advocates.
On Wednesday, several universities in Massachusetts defended their admissions practices and said they meet legal requirements. They stressed that building a campus of students from different races, places, and a variety of experiences was crucial to their academic mission.

Seems illogical if whites are a majority. Its a pretty large sample population. Could it be that they are using race ....hey...wait a minute.
An achievement they worked very hard to get and I’m sure are very proud of.

22.2 percent of the incoming students are Asian, far above their percentage of the population. Yet there is a lawsuit currently against Harvard claiming its admissions policy discriminates against Asian students.
I’ll bet that many of the “minorities” are 1/2 white.

Diversity matters. Most of all.
Skill, ability, GPA .... All of these tried and true formulas fall apart when minorities, LBQTUVWXY&Z, illegals and other assorted freaks are given an unwarranted advantage.
In no time at all - Harvard will be no better than Evergreen.
Time to investigate the NFL and college recruiters next. Somehow the Patriots are the only team that can find white talent? There are no other teams wuth even 50% white players? It is a totally rigged system.

Keeping it real....there's always been a problem with admissions to elite schools. Well-connected whites have always had an easier acceptance standard than non-connected whites. That's one reason Affirmative Action and a level playing field appealed. Now, we have a playing field that works against middle-class white folks whose chances at upward mobility are being eliminated.

Virtually everyone on this forum knows that this is patently untrue. Why do we have to put up with mediocrity and lies in our news outlets? This involves Asian students you dumb@ss.
Because it does discriminate against Asians. If Harvard adopted race-blind admissions as is the case at Berkeley and CalTech, the number would be closer to 40 percent.
You’re exactly right. How is “white” defined. There is a growing population of mixed-race kids. How are they classified? This is all such nonsense.
Or maybe Trans blacks.

It is because they are discriminated against. Based on test scores they should be at a much higher percentage. And IMO that is what it should be based on - test scores.
Percentage of the overall population versus the incoming class has nothing to do with the students’ qualifications.
What would that percentage be if Asians were held to the same standards as white, black, and Latino applicants? I suspect that it would be quite a bit higher.
