I have a fire tablet too and love it. Good size for what I need.

I get it. I waitressed overnights at Perkins while in college. To this day I truly dislike pancakes. You couldn’t even pay me to eat anything with pancake syrup.

I still like real maple syrup, but the fake stuff; yuck.

Do you all realize that when you browse the internet on the Kindle Fire that all requests go through Amazon proxy servers and they keep the data?

Be aware of your privacy...

I assume that everything is logged somewhere, whenever I get on the Internet, use my cellphone, etc. Anybody who thinks there is any privacy online is fooling themselves ;-)

Oh yeah, my printed out pages of recipes have all sorts of spills and smudges. I was so worried once that my recipes would be unreadable I took the time to put them all in the word files. Just as a back up. I find I use them all the time, searching for certain keywords. It has actually come in pretty handy. And of course have added a ridiculous number of new recipes, many to be tried eventually.

That’s funny. I back everything important that’s digital, with PAPER copies. I trust paper a lot more ;-)

I like having both. Something I can get my hands on and physically read brings me comfort. But those can get splattered with spaghetti stains and then I can’t read how many teaspoons of something to add!

My files are backed up twice, once to an external drive and also off-site. Don’t think I will have a problem :-)

I love pickles and Dijon mustard, so I’ll have to try that! I particularly love pickle juice, ice cold pickle juice with a cheese sandwich, Yum.

Yes, I learned the value of an external drive when our computer died years ago and I lost everything. When we switched to Linux, I made sure we had three ways of saving all that digital stuff.

But I still have my paper for crucial things, and can hold it all in my hot little hands.

There are measures you can take to protect your privacy. Most folks aren't even aware they've traded privacy for convenience (e.g. placing a microphone in your house). But I don't mean to hijack the thread.

Thanks for the pear recipes! My son has a pear tree and is trying to figure out what to do with them. :)

I’d really like to set something up so that I can see what my cats do all day, while I’m gone...

Wonderful! Now I’ll be able to figure out why they both slink around looking guilty, when we come home at night - and how all their expensive toys wind up in their water bowl!

Did you know they've been posting on FR for you? ;-)

Not possible. They’re locked up away from the ‘puter during the day.

(But they do their best to walk on the keyboard when I’m trying to post - that’s why I have so many typos. My story, sticking to it ;-)

My daughter-in-law surprised me, because she was making hardcopies of all the digital pictures they had of my granddaughter. As a backup. thought that was cute, with the younger generation going backwards, so it seems :-). Or forward...?

Maybe both. I love having digital books available, and being able to carry them around compactly to read wherever I am. But I want hard copies of my favorites. It’s just natural for people to want to be able to hold their treasures in their hands.

My husband especially loves how nice old books look, feel, smell, the texture of the pages as you turn them...

We seriously need to divest ourselves of about half of our library; that’s going to be a hard row to hoe.

Ouch, that’ll be like giving up old friends. When we moved, I took every single book with me. I just couldn’t give them up. Now we are in a much smaller house, and I have no clue where I’m even going to put up the bookcases. But they will go somewhere, because they were crammed full of books. I have to have some way of finding my treasures :-) I think they’ll end up in the basement. Oh well, I’ll just create a cute little library room down there.
