WARNING VIDEO CONTAINS IMAGES THAT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO LOOK AT
DES MOINES, Iowa (KRON) A mother is putting out a stern warning after her baby became covered in sores.
Baby Juliano is in terrible pain as cold sores take over his face and mouth.
His mother Samantha Rodgers says doctors told her he had the flu, or a bad case of hand foot and mouth disease, but it got worse.
His sores were growing onto his hands and his neck and his stomach, Rodgers said.
Juliano was sent to a childrens hospital in Des Moines where he was tested.

Rodgers who was molesting your kid that gave him herpes that bad?
Cold sore herpes is different from genital herpes.
From CDC:
What is the link between genital herpes and oral herpes (cold sores on the mouth)?
Oral herpes (such as cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth) is usually caused by HSV-1. Most people are infected with HSV-1 during childhood from non-sexual contact. For example, people can get infected from a kiss from a relative or friend with oral herpes. More than half of the population in the U.S. has HSV-1, even if they dont show any signs or symptoms. HSV-1 can also be spread from the mouth to the genitals through oral sex. This is why some cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-1.
If a woman has genital herpes and has an active case when she goes into labor, the dr will always do a C-section. A baby coming through the birth canal and contracting herpes, may die of the virus. At least that is what we were taught decades ago in class. I am unclear as to how else he has the sores all over his body. I also thought the the sores only occur at the actual place of infection. Any Drs out there that can clarify?
Also, could this be considered shingles? Just trying to figure this out........
Are you certain it is not Impetigo?
Shingles is secondary to a chicken pox infection. Presumably the medical personnel would be able to diagnose chicken pox.
You beat me to it. I was thinking impetigo. Can get really serious, mycoplasma can cause disfiguring painful oozing sores all over body. Poor child.
They tested the baby it is Herpes. Cold Sores are pretty common. They are very contagious and someone with an active outbreak who comes in contact with a child, particularly kissing a child, can give that virus to the child. Could have wiped mouth and touched childs face.
Maybe she infected her baby.
Maybe she infected her baby.
A single mom, all alone with her sick baby. The mother will be lucky if she doesn’t also get it. Maybe she’s already been vaccinated.
HSV1 can be genital as well, and a baby born during an infection outbreak in the genital area could contract the herpes virus as it’s being born
[[More than half of the population in the U.S. has HSV-1]]
I’ve read that 90+% have it
They rested the baby and it showed positive for herpes simplex 1. The initial outbreak of oral herpes tends to be pretty massive and painful.
Unless the baby has had chicken pox, he can’t get shingles. Shingles is a flare up of chickenpox.
Several years ago I knew a family who absolutely would not allow anybody to touch their infant, especially the baby’s hands. The first thing babys do is put their hands in their mouths, so any contaminants attached to them goes right into the mouth. Often times when strangers want to greet a baby, rather than kissing the child, they will touch the baby’s hands. So this family forbided anybody from doing that. It seemed rude, but wasn’t intended to be, just protective of the children they loved so much.
I’ve stopped touching baby’s that are so irresistably adorable for that very reason.
It used to be that brand new babies were never taken out in public to protect them from disease they couldn’t fight off. Anymore I see newborns without hats and sweaters or warm blankets around them in the middle of winter, nothing more than a receiving blanket thrown over a car seat swung from a handle on the way into a store from a parking lot.
They aren’t even held close under an adult’s coat to keep warm and dry. Ugggg...off the soapbox!
Another Des Moines baby died earlier this month from herpes virus and meningitis. Newborns have a weak immune system.

Possible
“Abreva”. (docosanol) The ONLY thing that works.
Works best applying at the very first inkling of an onset of a cold sore (Herpes) regardless of where (externally) the sores appear.
Apply as often as you think of it. Have some on hand. Don’t wait to apply till later. Apply IMMEDIATELY.
Yes it’s expensive. Yes it comes in a tiny little tube.
But NOTHING works like Abreva.
I hope crooked teeth aren’t contagious...
Cold sores of the mouth is a herpes virus. There is Herpes 1&2. a person can get Herpes 1 and or 2 in various places due to contact in various ways.
A co worker in in 1990’s was telling me her 2 very young sons both developed sores in their mouths. in talking she said the whole family shared tooth brushes. She and her husband infected their kids. I cannot believe people decades later still don’t get how easy it is to pass these things along.
The initial infection, usually in infancy, involves a diffuse gingivostomatitis, i.e. the lining of the mouth is inflamed and tender and painful.
In my experience, in most cases, the Mom will admit to having occasional cold sores. They do not need to be active to infect the child. The virus need only be present. The infant contracts the infection from kissing by his mom.
What are you going to do? Tell new mothers not to kiss their infants???
