This is a pretty unbiassed array of opinions actually. I think the answer is not necessarily either/or, but hey.
Support for the death penalty is a mile high and an inch deep.
a mile wide and an inch deep-sorry
But surprise, surprise! The jury voted death!
IMO that suggests that support for the DP is far stronger...far "wider"...than "progressives" will admit.
Giving or getting?
I’m for it ONLY if the EVIDENCE is SLAM BANG NO QUESTION of any kind or nature whatsoever.
I’m not for it in circumstantial evidence cases where prosecutors lie and distort and courts themselves are soooooo incompetent and prejudiced. Here in Texas recently a District Judge went to prison for his incompetence. That didn’t help the guy that lost 20 years of his life behind bars.
That depends. Am I the one being sentenced?
The death penalty has nothing to do with vengeance, fear of persecution, or revenge. It was instituted by God with Noah after the flood, because man was made in the image of God. ‘Nuf said.
Liberals are fond of trotting out statistics to claim that it has no deterrent benefit. They overlook the obvious, in your face, fact that there is at least ONE miscreant who will not be repeating their crime.
(Liberals have never been good at figuring out how deterrence works! They were all for disarming during the cold war. Reagan upped the ante and broke the Soviet Union.)
Charlie sound be dead ,
I can't speak for anyone else but I'm prepared to admit that there are certain things that I might be willing to do except for the prospect of prison time (don't worry,I'm not talking serious stuff here).
I suppose that that fact calls into question my basic degree of decency, morality, respectability.
There can be no doubt that the DP deters some murders...probably quite a few.
If prosecutors were more dedicated to getting to the truth rather than convictions, in cases without a reasonable doubt, fry them.
I used to be all for it but not any more. Our law enforcement and judicial systems are so weakened and corrupted that I know longer trust the State with the authority to take a life. Prison for life without parole and without any kind of contact with the outside world. The living dead, in other words.
I am all for the death penalty, just wish it occur at high noon in the town square instead of hidden in private at midnight. Execute all violent criminals, no mercy. Leave mercy to their Gods.
If you could guarantee no parole I’m sure support would drop. Taking a life should put one behind bars for their life.
Two words: Mike Nifong.
I have met two people who were sentenced to death for murders they did not commit
The system is imperfect and with an imperfect system, we run the risk of executing innocent people.
And that makes the people a murderer.
Man on the street interview: Do you Agree or Disagree with the Death Penalty?
A person should reap what they sow.
Ken Anderson.
Having worked years ago with felons, including some locally notorious murderers, I am for the death penalty. For the most part, people inclined to commit murder will remain a constant threat to society. I have seen a friend murdered by an inmate in an escape attempt and inmates murdered by fellow inmates/convicted murderers who were spared the death penalty. Which is more cruel, painlessly ending a life, thereby protecting society, or condemning someone to life under harsh conditions?
