I sort of got my handle by accident.

Long before I knew of Free Republic, I signed up for an account on the Delphi forums network. When it came time to input my chosen username, the program informed that it was already taken. Disappointed, I thought up another one and input that. Nope. Already taken. Ok, lets try another one....sorry. Already taken. I did that six or seven times, each time being rejected.

At this point, I figured there was a glitch in the program, so out of pure cussedness, I typed in 'Windflier', and dang if it didn't take.

Being a complete noob with such things, I figured that was that, and there was no changing it. I'm sort of glad I did, as that handle has come to suit me, and after so many years feels like my own name.

According to my Sister, when I got out of the military and started to grow out my hair again, I looked like Flagg from the ‘90s TV miniseries, “The Stand.”

Took mine from the dragon in the 80s movie Dragonslayer. I’ve always loved that movie and dragons and I can get firey.

I grew up on superhero comic books, and had a taste for Golden Age Fawcett Captain Marvel instilled in me. I figured it would be too much to be Captain Marvel himself ... too much to live up to. Plus, the name has been used by MANY other characters due to a complex copyright history. His nemesis is Dr. Sivana, “the world’s wickedest scientist”, who predates Lex Luthor and is a possible partial inspiration (bald mad scientist trope).

Anyway, I figured it would be fun to take the name of someone who isn’t too well known, is very much a character, and allows me to poke fun at myself a little.

The main problem is that the character is lesser known, so that I am sometimes mistaken for being a real medical doctor.

At one point I got sick and tired of the news media claiming that the people want this, or the people think that, when clearly it was only them (and the rabid 20%) that wanted that or thought that way. So I decided to become “The People” to prove them wrong.

Didn’t work too well, did it?

My first manufacturing job I ran a yarn making machine called a barmag 25. Barmag was a German company that no longer exists. It was called a 25 because each yarn position on the machine was 25 inches wide.

Something goofy but easy to remember.

I live in Maryland. Mason & Dixon were hired by the Penn and Calvert families to survey and mark the lines between their land-grants. (now the border between MD & PA and between MD & DE) You can see one of their markers between MD eastern shore and southern DE.

Also see my tag-line... which is a quote from my father.

It’s been my stage name since the late 1980’s and no, I am not a drummer.

People started calling me “The Stickman” after Billy Ray Cyrus (long before he was signed or famous outside of the Tri-State) started calling me that. I used to jam with him and his band on Sunday night’s at the infamous Ragtime Lounge and I gave them a copy of the 1st album I ever was a part of. The song I wrote music for on that album was called “The Stickman”.

I still remember being at the Huntington Mall a few weeks after BRC started calling me by that name and hearing “Hey, it’s the Stickman” and thinking I was suddenly hot stuff...which I never was lol.

I was a big fan of the book Alas, Babylon, by Pat Frank. Dystopian stories are some of my favorites, and this book is one of the best, and the details of how to put a society back together, etc., are amazing.

But more than that, as a Christian, having read the Bible numerous times, I can't help but reflect on America as the Great Babylon of the End Times as written about in Revelation, and the line that is the title of Pat Frank's book.

Read it yourself and tell me this isn't about the USA:

Babylon the Great has fallen!
