Judge Offers Inmates Reduced Sentences in Exchange for Vasectomy

Judge Sam Benningfield signed a standing order, which permitted inmates to have their sentences shortened by 30 days in exchange for the sterilizing procedure.

Female inmates can also get the birth control implant Nexplanon, which prevents pregnancy for four years, for the same sentence reduction.

...

“Offering a so-called ‘choice’ between jail time and coerced contraception or sterilization is unconstitutional," Hedy Weinberg, ACLU-TN executive director, said in a statement.

...

Since the program began, 32 women have received the birth control implant and 38 men have agreed to have a vasectomy, News Channel 5 reported. It was not immediately clear how many men have undergone the surgery.

Both options are provided free-of-charge to the inmates, who can also earn an additional two days off their sentences for completing a Tennessee Department of Health Neonatal Syndrome Education Program.

Castration would be more sensible.

Good idea. Now let’s talk about hysterectomies and making those available to women in similar situations.

Wouldn’t even need that, just a tubal ligation.

I’ll do the 30 days, even if I am innocent.

How are they supposed to support themselves when they get out, if they can’t have lots of kids and live on the benefits?

Some of them absolutely should be castrated. Would reduce problems for the society at large.

Sweeten the deal: offer them fake testicles, any size they want!

I think there should be a flip side. State prisoners on death row, and those who have what amount to a life sentence with no possibility of parole should have a guarded option.

If they decide they want to, and in consultation with their attorney, a prison psychologist and an independent psychologist, and even the input of their victims, they should be able to have a one-time offer of:

A pill containing 1 milligram of the extremely powerful opioid Carfentanil.

According to data by the RCMP, just 20 *micrograms* of Carfentanil is enough to overdose an adult human in most cases. So that is 50 times the dose that would kill a normal human.

Importantly, this is a one time offer per prisoner. They would go into a room with their lawyer and prison officials, and any clergy needed, and lie down on a comfortable lounger. Then after any final formalities, they would be issued the pill and a glass of water.

Observed taking the pill, they would remain there until such time as a prison physician determined that they were deceased.

Their death would be listed as suicide, not euthanasia, so any life insurance would not apply. I’m sure there are other details that could be worked out.
