An Airbnb host who canceled a reservation and told the guest, "One word says it all. Asian," has agreed to pay a $5,000 fine and attend a college course in Asian-American studies, officials with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing said Thursday.
The guest, Dyne Suh, had booked the home as part of a ski trip with her fiancé and friends in Big Bear in February. When she was close to the house, Suh messaged host Tami Barker through the Airbnb app, but the host cancelled the reservation after a dispute over additional guests.

If you want to operate a business like the Heart of Atlanta motel, you are going to be governed like the Heart of Atlanta motel.
Now, if he wanted to cancel over the number of guests, that would be one issue. But when dragged race into it, he stumbled over his own stupidity.
Exactly. There was a whole back and forth about how much for the extra guests and two small dogs. The owner eventually agreed to the terms - then all this on the day of. Moronic.
The fine should be $50k.
The young Asian lady made a video about this and showed it on YouTube.
She’s as bad as the woman who insulted her.
The world has gone NUTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
I'm guessing we're not getting the whole story here, so we can't really tell what exactly happened.
There seems to be some issue with the last minute addition of two guests to the party (originally party of 2, and the guests wanted to make it 4).
Pure speculation here, but my guess is the guests called 15 minutes away and said "Oh, by the way, we're now 4 instead of 2, is that ok?" and somehow that turned into a verbal fight and the host wound up saying some stupid things and cancelling on them.
If the host was that against renting to "Asians" then why did he agree in the first place? Didn't he know their name at the time the reservation was made?
You’re right this story doesn’t do it justice. In some of the other stories, it does a better job of explaining that the renter and the owner agreed on the cost of the extra guests well before the incident that happened on the day of.

Well, I would understand his concerns about Asians if he was renting a Mobile Home.
In the UK, “Asian” is the PC word for terrorist.
You left the money quote from the idiot out of your excerpt. MSM will have a field day with it, but since the renter’s an Asian the furor won’t be as intense as it could of been. Just seems to be the way it works with the left.
I rented my “mother in law” apartment a couple of times through AirBnb. Both times it was a disaster. Drug use and stealing things. I got paid of course, but they walked off with some of the bedding and a DVD player. ie; no profit...
I decided not to do it anymore. Rule #1. Never rent to local people. Rule #2. If you do, never rent to a woman. Boy friends (John’s) will be parked on both sides of your street.
Wow.. so the person rents the place, then later dumps the concept of bringing one dog despite the owner's no dogs policy. Owner finally caves and says OK. Then later yet, renter wants to bring TWO dogs... and two more guests too.
Then, at last minute, renter disputes the extra charge for the two extra guests... and it all falls apart.
wait. the state fined a private citizen 5 thousand freaking dollars and sent him to a reeducation camp, and FR is okay with this?
this place is changing.

Doesn’t sound like that’s the case, according to the story...
“Suh, who posted an emotional video about the incident on YouTube, has said she’d agreed to pay $250 per night to rent the home and later asked Barker if two other friends could also stay at the house, which Barker agreed to. Suh sent Barker screenshots of text messages where she agreed to the additional guests, but Barker cancelled the reservation.”
Sounds like the additional guests were not a last minute thing and that Baker had approved them.
I agree though that something is missing from the story - I’d like to hear Baker’s side f it.
Which it makes it even dumber that the owner would sabotage herself and start spewing stupidity.
Yes, Barker agreed given an extra $50/night, which supposedly the guests agreed to. Then, minutes away, the guests said they never agreed to the extra $50. That seems to be the crux of the disagreement.
True, that was the $5,000 mistake. She should have just said "We agreed on XXX per night. If you don't like it, then go elsewhere".
Did the owner admit he said that? I mean “ “One word says it all. Asian,”” sounds like an incredibly stupid thing to say.
you’re right- this should have been a civil suit and handled without a government “fine’ for improper thought crimes.
Even if he wanted to refuse her money because of race, he’s a total dope for saying it publicly.
Besides....it’s just plain bad manners. Obviously born in a cellar and never brought up.
