Trump bashing boosts ‘Saturday Night Live’ Emmy nods
My News LA ^ | July 13, 2017 | DEBBIE L. SKLAR

NBC’s variety series “Saturday Night Live,” re- invigorated with its lampooning of President Donald Trump, and HBO’s “Westworld” scored a leading 22 nominations Thursday for the 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

NBC’s “This is Us” broke an extended drought among broadcast networks by earning a nomination in the outstanding drama series category. It’s the first time a broadcast network program has been nominated in the category since CBS’ “The Good Wife” in 2011.

Also nominated for outstanding drama series were AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” Netflix’s “The Crown,” Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Netflix’s “House of Cards,” Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and “Westworld.”

HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the winner in the category the past two years, wasn’t eligible to be nominated because its only new episodes aired during the eligibility period were part of the body of work considered for last year’s victory.

HBO’s “Veep,” the winner of the outstanding comedy series Emmy for the past two seasons, was nominated again, while ABC’s “Modern Family” earned its eighth nomination in eight seasons. It was the winner in the category for five consecutive seasons, tying the record set by NBC’s “Frasier” from 1994- 98.

Also nominated for best comedy were FX’s “Atlanta,” ABC’s “black- ish,” Netflix’s “Master of None,” HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”

“Saturday Night Live” was nominated for outstanding variety sketch series, along with truTV’s “Billy on the Street,” IFC’s “Documentary Now!,” Comedy Central’s “Drunk History,” IFC’s “Portlandia” and HBO’s “Tracey Ullman’s Show.”

“SNL” also earned guest actress nominations for Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, guest actor nominations for Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Dave Chappelle, supporting actress nods for Vanessa Bayer, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, and a supporting-actor nomination for Alec Baldwin — for his celebrated portrayal of Trump.

This year's Emmy nominations are a joke. SNL got a record number of nomination just for Trump bashing. Same with Colbert. Several other Trump bashers were nominated including David Harbour (who wasn't expected to be nominated for Stranger Things) and Jeffrey Wright.

Soon all the tv shows will have ratings like CNN. People watch tv mostly out of habit, there are other things they can do.

SNL uses Scarlett Johansson and a pro-Trump pug to mock LIBS in rare gem of a HILARIOUS spoof on YouTube

On the other hand, tying for leader of the pack, with 22 nominations, is Westworld.

It is quite a very good series, and well-earning so many.

You are more right than you know. I read and re-read the entire posting and was totally unfamiliar with every single person and program nominated for the awards.
I do indeed watching television, but I retain, as a constitutional right, complete control of my REMOTE.
I consider the remote my personal “censorship button”.

I’d suggest that they create a special award for bashing Trump and conservatives, but it would seem that all the categories benefit from Trump- and conservative-bashing.

Just an observation, we’ve come a long way from the days of the three networks dominating TV. I dont have Netflix or HBO so can’t watch some of these shows even if they are worth watching.

FWIW, I haven’t seen ANY of those TV shows. Absolutely no interest whatsoever. The last TV series I made an effort to watch was 24 (earlier this year). I’ll watch football, car shows, history channel and FOX news.

Personal preference is streaming movies, surfing web, and YouTube’s that suit my short attention span (mostly gun stuff).

Oh and there’s this other diversion of mine - reading. There’s these things called ‘books’. One is actually messaging from God, it’s called ‘The Bible’. And then there’s everything else that takes you to new worlds, introduces you to life stories, make you laugh, teaches you things, and sometimes makes you a little better off in this world.

Being stuck in traffic

Shopping the day before a major holiday or snowstorm

Getting the eye poof test at the eye doctor

I have not watched any “entertainment” shows on television probably for over twenty years. What a I watch is news and documentaries such as History Channel, National Geographic and others. I find nothing entertaining in todays “entertainment”.

Excellent list. May I suggest additions:

Arranging the sock drawer by color, pattern, inches of rise on calf and date of last use (LIFO recommended for a consistent level of wear).

Careful review of your car’s owner’s manual to ensure absolute compliance with the 30, 60, 90,000 mile recommended service periods.

Personally responding to all junk mail in writing. Look, they took the time to personally invite you to the Summer Sizzler promotion- and the great opportunity for get a great deal on a brand new Buick. You really kind of owe them a response for their act of kindness.

Boy it’s been like 30 years since we viewed SNL - it just got real boring people on it year after year. Just dropped it off all together and have never missed one darn thing. The people on it are the disgusting.
