Six people were fatally shot and 14 others were wounded in separate attacks during a 19-hour period from Thursday to Friday in Chicago, according to police.

Back in the mid eighties I was on a trip and several newspapers accumulated. I laid them out and just riffled through the headlines. Aside from different dates and names the “news” was all the same; murders, robberies, rapes, etc. I also noticed that they all read essentially the same as the neighborhoods and bars never varied much. Shortly after, I dropped the paper.
Yeah, 20/6 shootings/fatalities in a day is roughly the normal pace. IIRC, over the 4 day July Fourth weekend, 105 people were shot, and 15 or 20 died. Maybe that's a little worse than yesterday's mid-week tally, but not much. And, you've got to expect a little celebration on a weekend or a holiday.

IIRC, Sessions said they wanted to “reduce shootings.” Reduce and eliminate are different, the latter virtually impossible. I would imagine a goal of this magnitude cannot be done immediately.

What the Feds can do is once a shooter is apprehended and it is proven he or she has either a felony conviction or domestic violence conviction, they can be held, with no bail or draconian bail by the Feds, tried and convicted of the federal charge. They need to be out there doing this.
The CPD does try to do a decent job of apprehending and bringing to trial the shooters despite hampered by the “don’t dare snitch” attitude promoted by gangs (they have yet to prosecute members for threatening witnesses) and winked at by politicians
But because there is no political accountability. When these come to trial the very reporting venue like the Trib just report the outcome which is a slap on the wrist. But that’s it. If there was and Chicago’s news media announced they will begin thoroughly covering these trials and hold the result accountable through by not only naming the prosecutor who should be pushing for serious time or even death but naming the let em walk judges as well. These daily episodes would drop. .
Never mind this, who did Trump Jr. meet with last year?
