I always liked Lennon’s use of a Cello in that song.
It provided a strong, menacing dirge-like drive contrasted with all the surrounding flutter of noises.
The cello took the place of a bass or trombone.

The Walrus-is-Paul people say the sound of the cello was mimicking the sound of an ambulance.

I think it is the first Beatles song I remember from when I was four of five years old. I always thought it was because of the lyrics, now I know it was because of the music.

And the noise, deep down it is that song that probably influenced me more than any other.

The noise, I loved that noise.
