New bills spark debate over the safety of sanctuary cities

At the center of national debate, a question remains unanswered: Are sanctuary cities that protect illegal immigrants safer than non-sanctuary cities?

Sanctuary supporters claim they are.

"Police chiefs across the nation believe that enlisting local police to enforce immigration law is a bad idea," California Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, a Democrat, claimed at a news conference last week. "Having [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] pluck criminals out of jail and send them across the border or wherever they came only to come right back endangers our communities.”

But is that true?

"When we eliminated our sanctuary policy back in 2008, we saw crime, violent and stolen vehicles fall by 25 percent," he recalled. "We saw a 20-year low crime rate. When we were allowed and had the discretion to contact our federal immigration partners, crime fell drastically."

Of course it is true!

"According to City-Data.com, which collects data from various government agencies, from 2008 to 2009 Phoenix's murder rate fell 27 percent, robberies by 23 percent, assault by 13 percent, burglaries by 14 percent and theft by 19 percent. The numbers for each category fell the following year as well – albeit by smaller margins."

I had to check whether this was satire, bad satire because it's too overdone to be funny, after reading that statement. Sadly, liberals under Obama, Pelosi, and Hillary have reached new heights of insanity.

Yes, I used to laugh when people said liberalism is a mental disorder. It is not funny though, because it is absolutely the truth.

Sanctuary cities have created a protected class of people, many LE won’t mess with them at all because it can cause them all sorts of problems with those up the food chain. We all know what happens when criminals feel they can get away with their crimes.

Well, whattaya know...

I'm not surprised in the least. Another indicator of the fraud and destructiveness that is liberalism.

We’ve known/seen for years that when ‘government’ subsidizes something - you get more of it!

When you INVITE these low-lives IN, what do you expect?

Stop subsidizing them and they go elsewhere.

What a concept!

Man, these next 4-8-12-16 years are going to be GREAT! We are going to get rid of a TON of bad players, maybe balance a few budgets, continue to beat down the LefTards and MAGA!

Best. Election. Ever. EVER! :)

In addition to getting rid of the sanctuary city policy in Phoenix, in 2010 two other things happened that have greatly impacted crime in Arizona generally. Opinions vary on which measure had the most favorable impact.

SB-1070 cracked down on illegal immigrants. Even though the courts have never allowed it to be implemented fully, enough of it took effect that a lot of illegals decided that AZ was not the best place to be.

The other thing that happened in 2010 was that AZ became a constitutional carry state. Car jacker became a decidedly dangerous occupation.

Bottom line is, Arizona is doing a number of things right. Now if we could just get a decent Senator....

I would like my city to be a sanctuary City from the federal income tax and also federal gun laws and federal gas taxes. That should be ok with liberals right?

Yes I am sure you are right about the combination of things. That is why a real border/immigration enforcement needs to be layered to be effective.

Only okay with them on their issues. Always! Like spoiled children they feel they have to get their own way. Conservatives must never get their way, if they even try liberals must throw a tantrum fit.

How about a sanctuary city against statutory rape? Prostitution? Drug dealing? How about mail fraud, environmental law, child labor? Tax evasion? Murder? If you don’t want to follow laws, you will have outlaws?

All sanctuary cities should have a sign posted at the city limits warning those about to enter that laws are not enforced and that one enters at one's own risk. Some cities have "nuclear free zone" posted. Same concept.
