Justice Department gives up Washington Redskins name fight

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is giving up the legal fight over the name of the Washington Redskins.

In a letter to a federal appeals court, the department said last week's Supreme Court decision in Matal v. Tam in favor of an Asian-American band calling itself the Slants means the NFL team will prevail in a legal battle to cancel the team's trademarks because the name is disparaging to Native Americans.

I had the exact same thought when I read the headline.

Not to worry, though, because the Libs will try again. That is their modus operandi. They may cease the battle for a while, but they never give up.

Just look how long it took them to rid the nation of the Confederate flag, and statues, and buildings named after people they have come to dislike, etc.

The Libs will take this as a minor set-back.

The article doesn't mention it, of course, but this anti-free speech legal matter was initiated under the Obama administration, NOT the current Trump administration and Justice Department.

I am Choctaw. The names “Redskins,” “savages” and the mascot for the Cleveland Indians are to me the most offensive sports logos/nicknames. AND, . . . so what?! I can live a normal life and pull for or against these teams based on their names or the way they play or the way their players act on or off the field.

This SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN a DOJ affair. Donald Trump respects the rule of law. president ubama simply USED the law for whatever gain he wanted.

Our local uni, Southeast Missouri State, changed its team names from “Indians” (for the men’s teams) and Otakians (for the women’s teams) to a non-existant lifeform called “Redhawks”. But Jackson, Mo. high school still are the Indians, which is kind of ironic in a way.

Eastern Michigan University changed their team names from the Hurons to the Eagles for this same reason.

Strangely, Central Michigan University is still the Chippewas.
