A NATO F-16 fighter jet has tried to approach the Russian defense minister’s plane above the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea. The plane was warded off by a Russian Su-27 escorting the minister’s aircraft.

Ruskie showed his armament by tilting his wing up.....I think they used the term “demonstrate” in lieu of “displayed.”

Why are we harassing the defense minister’s plane? Clearly there was someone of importance on that plane because it was escorted.

Are Russian planes harassing planes carrying US cabinet officials flying
over the gulf of Mexico?

I think the foreign policy idiots in the swamp are pushing for a confrontation with Russia, and I don’t think it is necessary, correct, best for the US,
or that it will end well.

The Russians frequently harass and buzz our and our allies’ ships and planes, skim territorial borders, and attempt to intimidate our pilots by making reckless maneuvers.

Norwegian F-16. Note the drag chute extension below and behind the vertical stab.

I’m sure the Viper driver is fully aware that any Ivan fighter escorting a HAV target such as this is going to be armed.

Kindergarden pilot cant even hold his bird still at a 30 deg off angle. Surprised they didnt have a multiple aircraft collision do to ineptness.

Confidence is high that the F-16 is not a U.S. bird.

The Russians have been stepping up their flights along our coasts, requiring us to scramble fighters to escort them and show we care. Looks like Trump has been doing the same thing to them.

Good eye about that being a Norwegian Viper. Bad shadowing, but I couldn’t see any white ones on the rails of the Viper. If that’s the case, that explains why the SU-27 wasn’t super excited about the Viper’s proximity.

All in all, a comparatively civilized encounter.

looked to me like a deliberate move to a position aft and below the F16 and getting a fire solution on the target.

F16 looks to have scooted after that, maybe a warning sounded letting the driver know that he was being painted.

Probably so. They were likely on guard channel too, talking to each other.

Have you been missing all the stories about Russian planes buzzing our planes and ships in the Baltic and Black Seas? Clearly the F 16 just went up for a look, kept his distance and was not threatening.

The Viper driver had already long before made his point. Ivan can flash his weapons all he wants.

It’s a game that’s been going on since the 50’s, maybe earlier. I can get close to you, and you can’t do anything about it unless you want to cause an international incident between to nuclear giants and possibly set off WWIII.

Depending on what model of AMRAAM the Viper is carrying, the effective range is 40-100 nautical miles. That’s beyond visual range (BVR). If he was going to shoot, the interaction between him and the Sukhoi would have taken place at a far greater distance away from the “target” aircraft.

Yep, pretty normal interaction. This one just happened to be caught on film.

Russians have been regularly flying just miles off the airspace of the Baltic (and other NATO members) states. They don’t inform in advance about the flights, they switch off the “transponders” and don’t communicate with the air traffic control.

So basically just some dots show up on the radar screens and in such cases all the civilized countries send one or two air force crafts to visually identify the unknown object and check out If it is UFO, maybe some aircraft with communication/navigation system failure that needs to be escorted to the nearest airfield... or just damn Russians again.

They do it regularly and then use it for their gay posturing and propaganda about evil warmongers and brave red army that chased them off. Chased them off my ass. The F-16 got close enough to check out what it’s all about (which was the pilot’s task) and then slowly flew away.

The only risk I see is that one day Russians might crash one into another and it will be blamed on “NATO warmongers”.

No. It's them doing the same nonsense again. Just along someone’s else coast.

Russians are punks and our military would utterly obliterate them if push came to shove. Anything suggesting that a Russian plane got the best of one of ours is total garbage.
