Kansas Husband Who Robbed Bank to Avoid Wife Sentenced to Home Confinement

A 70-year-old man who said he robbed a Kansas City, Kansas, bank so he could get away from his wife blamed his actions on depression.

A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Lawrence John Ripple to home confinement and three years of supervised probation.

Ripple went to the Bank of Labor, a block from police headquarters, last September. He gave a note to a teller saying he had a gun and was demanding money. After he was given it, Ripple waited for police.

Well at least one judge has a sense of humor. Of course if one of them ends up bludgeoned or hacked into a thousand pieces then the judge will catch hell.

So, he robs a bank so he can escape his wife, presumably by going to jail, and the judge sentences him to home confinement? If he was depressed before, what is he now??
