The protester was apparently blocking a car leaving the fundraiser...

...

The driver left the scene, but police say they are not treating the incident as a hit-and-run.

Comment from another post/article: LOL! Tom Reece • an hour ago According to the ACLU's mission and past practices, the attorney who got hit should now start preparing to vigorously defend the poor victim that hit him. △ ▽

Also, I know exactly where this is..Unless they were protesting on the corner, it had to be the parking lot.
If were protesting on the corner, it’s a super busy intersection..a car probably got too close turning the corner & clipped them.
I’m just guessing the actual scenario. I can’t open this article to read the details.

Yeah, it’s right at the end of the 55 freeway and is a nightmare intersection. There’s a right turn lane for buses that looks like it should be for regular traffic, the Triangle Square shopping center is right across the street, and it’s an intersection known for having traffic cameras so people focus on the color of the light rather than the other factors as they traverse the intersection. Plus, Harbor Boulevard is right nearby with its own volume of cars and pedestrians, so it adds to the already chaotic mix.

Anyone associated with the ACLU, CAIR, La Raza, BLM, Antifa, SPLC and similar non-American groups should be fair game if protesting and trying to block traffic or causing damage.
