Colleges Celebrate Diversity With Separate ‘Commencements’

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Looking out over a sea of people in Harvard Yard last week, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive and one of Harvard’s most famous dropouts, told this year’s graduating class that it was living in an unstable time, when the defining struggle was “against the forces of authoritarianism, isolationism and nationalism.”

Two days earlier, another end-of-year ceremony had taken place, just a short walk away on a field outside the law school library. It was Harvard’s first commencement for black graduate students, and many of the speakers talked about a different, more personal kind of struggle, the struggle to be black at Harvard.

“We have endured the constant questioning of our legitimacy and our capacity, and yet here we are,” Duwain Pinder, a master’s degree candidate in business and public policy, told the cheering crowd of several hundred people in a keynote speech.

From events once cobbled together on shoestring budgets and hidden in back rooms, alternative commencements like the one held at Harvard have become more mainstream, more openly embraced by universities and more common than ever before.

I wonder if white grads were barred from the “black” ceremony.I also wonder if black grads were barred from the “white” function.

the struggle to be black at Harvard.

Help me out here.

Universities such as Harvard pride themselves on their openness and tolerance.

Universities such as Harvard are full of liberals, who profess that tolerance.

Thus, the people found at Harvard are tolerant and accepting of black students.

Then, how it is, that somehow, it is a struggle to be black at Harvard, if the university is, per the liberals, an open tolerant welcoming environment????

The Left has not promoted “tolerance” for decades.

Lots of conservatives seem to think talking about “tolerance” is a great “gotcha.”

Since the 70’s, when the Left adopted post-modernism, their position has been that only Leftists have any rights, such as free speech. They also hold that “racism,” “sexism,” etc., is all the response that “hate facts” deserve.

How to make heads explode:

“We, the white students of Harvard, fully endorse the students of color’s desire for a separate commencement and will do all we can to assist them in making it a permanent event.”

Now what, eh?

there will be two ceremonies, one with decorum, and another very very loud one with heavy potential for brawls

Its hard because white people get twitchy around the black kids because they know a potential powder keg can go off with zero provocation. It is absolutely unknowable what word or action will set off an incident. Black people sense the unease and tension and interpret it as aggression, which creates a feedback loop with amplification

Ten years ago, I heard about a California university with so many Asian students, they demanded separate commencement ceremonies for Vietnamese and Filipinos.

Or, more succinctly put, we have acquiesced to brats for so long, we’ve created a demographic of perpetual playground bullies. And the only way to stop a bully is to give him a bloody nose. So to speak.

This was just for graduate students, who felt that somehow, they weren't getting the respect that they deserve, because of AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ( though they didn't say that...it is implied, well, sort of, in the article ) and also, that they were "better" are better than their white counterparts.

Frankly, they are just plain old NUTS! Sadly, this is now going on at a whole LOT of colleges...IVIES and others.

We have certainly come a long way from segregation to segregation since 1865. Everyone complains about not being the same, so the first thing done is to do something different. In this case, it was better to have than to wish for it.

Harvard set up an Afro-American Studies Program with a chairman, many years ago. They hired a well known Communist Party organizer named Ewart Guinier as the chairman despite his long red record including being thrown out of Hawaii by the U.S. Navy Commandant their in 1948 for his acts of treason (his wife, Eugenie was also thrown out for her participation in Communist Party agitation among the troops).

Their daughter was Lani Guinier, once nominated by Pres. Clinton (if memory serves me correctly), for a high position in the US judicial system. However, people found her Marxist and black nationalist/anti-white writings and got the nomination dropped despite the best efforts of the Clintons to get her that job.

Harvard as been a school for Reds since the 30’s so what is going on today is nothing but an update on their past history.
