Clear tactical victory by the Germans, but a strategic defeat. The Germans should have used their Zeppelins to scout.

The anniversaries of several battles involving sailors and Marines are coming up over the next week. Tomorrow is the Fourth Battle of Ushant, aka The Glorious First of June fought between Britain and France during the War of the First Coalition in 1794. June 4 and 5 is Midway (1942), and June 6 is both Belleau Wood (1918) and Normandy (1944).

"One of the major clashes involving Germany and Britain before the outbreak of war in August 1914, was what was described as the naval race between the two nations. The British public had grown to believe that Britain could not be challenged when its navy was concerned. The song “Rule Britannia" was very much in this mould as the song starts “Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves, Britain never, never, never shall be slaves."

So how does that work today, in mooslimb no-go-zones of London? Plus London has a mooslimb mayor!

It seems to me that the German admirals and captains were excellent battle commanders but always seemed to be afraid to risk their ships.

I don’t think it was cowardice, just unwilling to risk precious resources.

“Princess Royal’s blown up, Sir.” Beatty turned to his flag captain, saying “Chatfield, there seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today.”

Jellicoe should have turned toward the German fleet instead of away to avoid possible torpedos.
