When you work in veterinary emergency medicine, you may feel like you’ve seen it all.

And then comes a puppy like Jade.

Last weekend, the staff at the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (VSEC) in South Philadelphia were on the overnight shift when they got a fairly unique call for assistance.

The owner of a 16-week-old pit bull puppy, Jade, told staff the young dog had poked her head through a tire rim and had gotten stuck. The owner tried everything she could think of, even calling 911, but it was no use.

So did they use Bill Clinton techniques to remove her?

Cute little girl!

Of course, wait for the ‘kill all the Pit Bulls’ crew to soon make an angry appearance on this thread.

The rim was on tight, and Jade’s ears were in the way, so the puppy was a given a sedative to make her sleep. With some shimmying, the rim came off. Jade was then given some steroids to help with the swelling around her neck.

That’s not a “tire rim”; it’s a wheel!

The family said they were left blindsided by the attack. The pit bull was part of the family was for the last nine years and had not bit anyone prior to the attack.

“I have no words to explain my pain,” Tsuda said.

The family said that the dog will be put down. Police said no charges will be filed.

The child’s organs were donated and the family created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.

Your previous comment, to which I replied was, “Name even one that has said kill all the pit bulls.” I was merely answering your demand. In fact, one curmudgeon even suggested that the owners of Pit Bulls be exterminated! How very 'progressive' of him!

Personally, I have no problem with the dog that killed the baby, being put down. If a dog kills, or attacks a human (subject to the cause of, and severity of the attack), I don't take issue with euthanizing the dog.

I have a nine year old, 65 pound, intact Shepherd Lab X female, Silvia, who is a lap dog. I've had her since she was 9 months old. The only time I have ever heard her growl at someone, was when I had only had her for less than a week, and the pair she growled at, were quite sketchy looking characters. Not very long ago, I met a friend's seven year old at school and walked her home. I had Silvia with me. Though not used to kids, she was cuddled by eight kids at once. Silvia was a little uncertain at first, but within ten seconds, she was in heaven. Even this gentle old dog, I would not leave alone with a baby.

The dog in the story you refer to, was at least nine years old, living in Nevada, and mauled a 6 month old Hawaiian baby. That means that the baby was new to the dog. A dog (or cat, especially) can get jealous, especially when this new, noisy creature, with the shrill voice and jerky movements, suddenly becomes the centre of attention. The dog may also have been investigating the baby, and was grabbed or pinched by the baby. Only God knows what happened.

Unfortunately, the mother left the baby unattended and not out of harm's way, for just a couple of minutes. She'll have that to consider for the rest of her life. Hopefully, God will give her the grace not to focus on this but to move on.

“The dog may also have been investigating the baby, and was grabbed or pinched by the baby. “

Then why would you want such a nice dog ‘put down’?

Accepting graciously, that you were incorrect in claiming that no FReeper would suggest the killing of all Pit Bulls, is what a man would do. Sometimes these products are needed to ease the butt-hurt of being proven wrong.

In that I made no claim your post is out of line.
