Two white women have been forced to close their pop-up burrito shop after they were accused of cultural appropriation. Kali Wilgus and Liz 'LC' Connelly opened Kooks Burritos in Portland, Oregon, after taking a trip to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico, last December. For the first few months, the weekend pop-up shop housed in an taco truck was a smash hit. It gained so much popularity, a local weekly newspaper decided to profile the entrepreneurial duo.

A recent episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" featured the ONLY burrito shop in Cabo San Lucas, which was founded by, and currently owned by, an American. They're open 24/7 selling burritos to the tourists and locals.

It used to be a compliment to a cook that you wanted their recipe(s). Now it is a new crime of ‘cultural appropriation’ if you bring a recipe concept, modify it for local tastes and setup in a different country. WTF? Surely this is a results of a community college bull session where they were trying to find the ultimate absurdist stunt!

This would be like Cubans protesting every cigar shop in the land claiming it appropriated Cuban culture!
(btw there was litigation post-embargo on the Cuban trade names and if the embargo is lifted that litigation may be re-visited, but that is what trademark law is supposed to be...)
