Wonder Woman tops Fandango survey of most anticipated summer movies
Entertainment Weekly ^ | May 23, 2017 | Oliver Gettell

The superhero movie starring Gal Gadot as the iconic Amazon warrior was voted this summer’s most anticipated blockbuster in a Fandango survey.

More than 10,000 people participated in the survey — the largest in the company’s 17-year history — and were asked to pick the one movie they were most looking forward to seeing on the big screen between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Wonder Woman took the top spot, followed by the wall-crawling reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming and the swashbuckler Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

I think the origin story using The Great War as the back drop is interesting. WW I does not have the cultural significance in the States as WW II. I must admit Wonder Woman in an Edwardian outfit is fetching.

Gal Gadot is hot. But, it’s disgusting that all Hollywood has to offer is comic book retakes. They are bankrupt, like their benefactors in DC.

I believe it was the late Robert Osbourne, host of TCM who said it best.
In the early days of film, the public were raised on the classic literature, so the movie producers made movies of the classics.

Today’s youth has been raised on comic books and “graphic novels”, so the producers make movies of the same.

As I have said in the past, fifty years ago a superhero movie would be made on the cheap, in black and white, crappy special effects, a true “B” movie, to be shown at a drive-in theater double feature as the bottom half of HERCULES AND THE MOON MAIDENS.

Today they are given the top billing, financing and CGIs.
Our youth today truly live in an age of fantasy.

She did voice work for Fallout 4 playing a torch singer. Here’s one of her songs Lynda Carter - Baby It’s Just You (Fallout 4) https://youtu.be/C0f8YVkodSQ

Actually that’s because in the late 70s Lucas and Spielberg proved that with an A budget and A marketing B movies can make A money. Roger Corman has gone on at length about how what really hurt his business was that the exploitation he was making came to rule the box office, his budget could no longer compete.

I am totally burned out on the Marvel/DC Comics movies.
I doubt I see Wonder Woman or any other CGI comics movies for awhile. I have about had my fill of The Transformers also.

I just got through watching a six part series on Amazon Prime called “The Game”. It was a British TV production. The best Spy thriller I have seen since the George Smiley series and Len Deighton series, “Game, Set, and Match”.

It was set in 1972 and concerned MI5 trying to stop a KGB plan for England. It was taught, well written, and kept you guessing and on edge till the very end. The series had a great young actor named Tom Hughes who played master spy Joe Lambe and he could be the next James Bond if they wanted to reset with a younger actor.

Now this is the type of genre and imagination missing from Hollywood. Highly recommend it.

Trust me, there are plenty of good ideas in Hollywood. The problem is that the people who actually make the decisions about what gets made are bean counters who are concerned about return on investment. The way they look at it is why risk a couple hundred million making something that no one has ever heard of, that they have no experience or predictability in marketing, when you can spend that same money to make something that everyone has heard of and which they know has a large audience, that they know how to promote, and that will most likely guarantee they’ll make money.

But why did comic book movies suddenly become popular? I think the huge critical and financial success of the first two Spider-Man movies in 2002 and 2004 did a LOT to increase the popularity of the genre. Later, the success of Iron Man in 2008 confirmed that comic book movies--if properly done--can be critical and huge financial successes.

It appears that the reviewers so far really like the Wonder Woman movie--after all, Gal Gadot literally stole the show in Batman vs. Superman.

I don't think I can watch another. And I was a big comic book fan in my youth.

Yep, me neither.

I used to have a great collection of The Amazing Spiderman when I was a kid.

They don’t seem to be able to do that franchise any justice at all.

Reboot, reboot, reboot, reboot... FAIL!

And now Mary Jane is apparently black.

/facepalm

Lesbians and femenists are outraged that Wonder Woman shaves her pit hair. Really.

Hollywood does and I won’t be wasting hard earned dollars on this trash.

Are they at least leaving her straight or will there be an obligatory lezbo kiss?
