FULL TITLE: Woman arrested for 'stealing hearse and dumping the body in a ditch' as cops reveal she may not have known it was an unmarked funeral vehicle
A Texas woman has been accused of dumping a body in a ditch after stealing a hearse from outside a store.
Police arrested Tanya Ray Albrecht, 28, from Bryan, Texas, six-and-a-half hours after she allegedly stole an unmarked tan Suburban being used as a hearse.
A man who was with her, Adam Craig Crow, 27, was also arrested.
The hearse driver had left the vehicle running and gone inside the store to buy a newspaper around 5.30am Friday when Albrecht reportedly climbed into the car and drove off, according to the Bryan-College Station Eagle.
She picked up Crow approximately 30 minutes after stealing the vehicle, according to the newspaper.

Should anyone be surprised?
“Hearse” is a misleading word. Hearses are usually used to haul coffins. Other vehicles serve the purpose of picking up the bodies prior to prep. Around here those vehicles are just called “body vans”.
Why does the media frequently use first, middle, and last names when identifying criminals, as opposed to just first and last name?
Yep. A tan Suburban is not a hearse.
I read the article. This happened at 5:30 AM. My guess is the driver just picked up a body from the hospital or nursing home and was on his way back to the funeral home.

A hearse is a hearse of course, of course
And no one can carjack a hearse of course
That is, of course, unless the hearse
is the famous Mister Dead
No way would I leave it running. Prosecute the people who stole it, and fire the guy who left it.

Depends on the state laws too. One time the man living next door to me died while at home. His wife had called the ambulance but he was dead when they got there. Found out they could not transport him and a hearse had to be called out as they are the only ones who could legally do so. It felt kinda odd to see the hearse pull up and take his body out but someone said it was our state laws that an ambulance could not transport a dead body.
Always carry two sets of keys if have to leave car running!!! One in the car and one on your persons.
As one example — if the news media in 1963 had reported that Lee Oswald had shot JFK, I bet there would have been some number of men across the USA, young, old and in-between, named Lee Oswald who would have been irritated or perhaps even harassed because of their dastardly deed.
But, since the media singled out Lee Harvey Oswald, it greatly diminished the extent to which innocent people were “suspected”.
I think using three names is standard for this reason.
Good point. Same situation with James Earl Ray.
Holy Moley. What a pair.
She looks like something is wrong with her.
That’s absolutely true! I always carry a spare key. 12 1/2 years at Domino’s, 30-40 runs a night, inevitably you’re going to lock yourself out. Only did it three times.
Aside from clever it’s funny you should put that together.
I read the story three or four times not making any sense of it because I read it as she stole a HORSE.
At least it happened in Texas.
Obviously not on the Dean’s list at Texas A&M.....
Because Tanya Sue Albrecht from Boerne, Texas would have been pissed off if people thought it was her.
Hillary is busy
Drugs
When they dumped the body did they think he was just asleep?
