The American Press Institute, an organization formed in 1946 at Columbia University and is dominated by journalists rather than reporters, defines journalism thus:
Journalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information. It is also the product of these activities. …
Note how activities unrelated to reporting news have precedence, and reporting is not even mentioned. Reporters do not “create” the news, whereas “journalists” seem to be preoccupied with it; note that creation is fabrication.
