A BABY goat with one enlarged eye has been born in Assam, India.
The kid was born on Wednesday May 10th, and has baffled local villagers.
Vets predicted that the goat, who also has only one ear, would die within a few days but he has defied expectations and stayed alive longer than expected.
The condition which causes these defects is called cyclopia.
A rare anomaly, it occurs during development in the womb when the two hemispheres of the brain do not separate.
This leads to the formation of a single central cavity with one eye, or sometimes partially fused or separate eyeballs.
The eyelashes and eyelids are absent, as is any true nose.
The upper and lower lips are present, but are usually small, and the upper jaw is short and teeth are missing, which is why the normal sized tongue protrudes.
The condition has been reported in other animals, including horses, pigs, cows, cats and even dusky sharks.
A large number of people have been visiting the village to see the goat. According to the villagers, the goat is said to be sacred, with some locals beginning to worship the new arrival.
The goat's owner, Mukhuri Das said: "I was shocked. It's like a miracle and people have been coming to our place to see this baby goat."
The owner immediately called vets to check on his new arrival.
He said: "They told me it will die in a few days but that was not true."
A villager who had come to see the baby goat said: "When I came to know about it, I thought it's a lie. But I was shocked to see the goat with a single eye."

Wonder what Winky tastes like after several hours in a smoker?
I’ve read that India has the highest number of birth defects in the world.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to recognize their ‘gods’ are merely the transformation of malformed people to the superstition reaction to them.
Their ‘gods’ are multi arms, multi heads...
This condition happens in humans, too. It may happen in all mammals. There is a poisonous weed that will cause this condition if the mother eats it, but that does not account for all of the cases.
Typically, infants with this condition are stillborn or die soon after birth. The brain is severely deformed and unable to maintain normal body functions.
It is possible that the brain in this goat is not quite so severely damaged and it does have sufficient functional brain stem to survive. If that is the case, then it is difficult to predict how long the goat will survive. I think the eye would be problematic for its health, without a lid or moisture to protect it.
All cultures are the same, just different paint jobs. [/s]
Do paternity tests to see which muzzy is the father..................
We were raising Oberhausli’s a few decades back, and had a cyclops born. Lasted a few hours.
Poor animal should be put down, unless the farmer is ready to care for its vital needs forever, as with a domesticated pet.
He will always have breathing and feeding problems.
May be rejected by his mother and other goats.
What’s with all the corpses in the Ganges River?
Sadly....there are many more heartbreaking congenital gestational(either through muations or local toxicity) induced malformations in humans...they dont last long either...just get a big textbook on embryology and you will the pictures..you will consider the possibility that random mutations or environmental effects are not a significant contibutor to the pathway of survivable evolutionary changes.
He will be in the US within the next two years and will be registered democrat. He is perfect for voting democrat as he can only see half of what he is shown and hear half of what he is told but can consume all they feed him. Born liberal.

A drug used to treat severe cases of the most common cancer, basal cell carcinoma of the skin, and especially those genetically highly prone to it, works the same way as that weed so might also cause this. Both affect a gene first identified in fruit flies. The advance of knowledge is often highly non-linear! And often fun to study. This birth defect has been fascinating people since at least Homeric times. Although the belief that there was a race of giant, humanoid ‘cyclops’ back then has been shown to be from misinterpretation of abundant fossilized mastodon bones on one of the Greek isles.
It’s their cemetery.
