My father bought it new in early 1955 and drove it as his business car for a couple of years and then sold it to my grandfather who lived with us on the farm. He was getting senile and would coast along at 30 on the main roads with 50 limits and then go 60 through the little towns with 25 limits. So he stopped driving and the car sat for a year of so and it was sold just before I turned 16. My parents decided they wanted me to live a while longer I guess so my main vehicle was a 1961 International Scout with a little inline 4 tractor motor and a handful of horsepower.
The 300 was really cool and my mother would drive me to school in it when I was in elementary school. Sometimes I’d get impatient and take my left foot and push her right foot to the floor and the car would downshift into low. Our upper field had a grassy worn path a little longer than 1/8 and I would get it up to 80 in low gear before I had to back off.
