By “rich” they mean the ones of us who actually PAY for our health insurance.
On my visits to the Emergency Room, half the waiting patients appear to be “less than rich”...but...THE ALL GET TREATED!
A couple of years ago I had a reason to visit the best of our local emergency rooms. It used to have an urgent care attached to it and that was where I was headed. I didn’t know they had shut it down. Anyway I checked in and was leaning against a wall. There was nowhere to sit and I was too sick to sit anyway. The security guard at the door had handed me a barf bag and I was using it. lol So I was watching the people there. Out of a full emergency room I counted 3, yes 3 me included, who actually needed to be there. The rest of the people were all having a pretty good time. Chatting, hitting the vending machines, going in and out to smoke.
After 30 minutes of waiting I told the guy I was too sick to wait any longer and left. Went to an urgent care down the street that I had looked up on my phone and they took me right in.
About a week later I got a survey call from the hospital about my visit. A real person I could talk to. I told him about my visit and he said it’s like that all day every day. He agreed with me but said they didn’t know what to do about it. I said....the old system worked fine where you triaged them and sent some to the urgent care and some into the hospital. He said they are thinking about opening up the urgent care again. I said I won’t be back unless they do.
