Now that Aaron Hernandez may have his conviction posthumously vacated under an obscure Massachusetts legal doctrine the Patriots could owe him money, a lawyer said Thursday.
The Pats may actually be contractually obligated to pay Hernandezs estate a $3.5 million bonus that was stopped hours after his murder arrest in 2013, attorney William Kennedy told the CBS affiliate in Boston.
Kennedy represents the families of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu. Hernandez was acquitted in their shooting murders last week only to commit suicide Wednesday in the Massachusetts prison cell where he was serving life without parole for another murder.

Not in MA. Because he died before his appeal was heard, it is likely that his conviction will be vacated.
That said, he would have been cut for missing practice and games. He did not fulfill his end of the contract.
I don’t have a problem with his estate going to his victim and his daughter. She was the only innocent in the whole mess.
Does anyone have a link to the law. I see hundreds of articles stating as such, but not a single one links to the text of the law.
This isn’t that “obscure”. The same thing happened with Ken Lay, the former CEO of Enron.

He did not have a chance to exaust his appeals.
It probably originated with Hernandez’s family lawyer.
Either way the Pats would appeal to the League... and win. The will not have to pay.
