You mean their license: The licensing board decides Thursday whether the restaurant could have done anything to prevent the incident ...

Absolutely. What does a license cost there now?

I heard there were two different licenses. A lower priced one if you were sending money to Sinn Fein. Much lower.

They aren't really supporting him, they are just trying to do a little CYA before they appear before the licensing board.

"She said the man never appeared drunk and that she does not know what happened in his interactions with police to set him off."

A BPD sergeant who also responded to the scene, however, said the guy was "extremely intoxicated ... he was very, very drunk."

In this case I think the BPD sergeant is likely to be a much more reliable witness.
