I wonder who he played in “Downton”.
According to IMDB it was a minor character in one episode. But he appears to have been working on other projects right up to the end.
Never heard of ‘im
Sir Philip Tapsell (1 episode, 2012)
He played a very nasty character in “Jewel in the Crown” and did it superbly. An excellent actor.
I loved that series - he played the police superintendant Ronald Merrick.
I loved that mini-series. He apparently has played many different “bad guy” roles.
One of my favorite BBC series. A young Richard Armitage plays the lead role.
Oh yes, he was the sweet, rather ineffectual father of Margaret and friend of (the very appealing) John Thornton in North & South. And in Downton Abbey, he was the arrogant doctor who presided over Sybil’s pregnancy and childbirth, and flatly refused to listen to her regular doctor’s warnings... He was a good one.
R.A. is adorable!
At the time of his death, the actor was preparing for a British touring production of Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman
He must have been a method actor..... : )
Great actor. I wonder what was the cause of death?
Oh, too bad. He was a great actor and (one reads) a fun person.
