Omaha-raised actor Zahn McClarnon has 30 years and 70 credits to his name, most notably scene-stealing roles on FXs Fargo and Netflixs Longmire.
The 50-year-old actor has done a lot and seen a lot. But his latest project casts him in fresh new territory: playing Pierce Brosnans father.
In AMCs new epic Western series, The Son which began its 10-episode season Saturday night McClarnon plays Toshaway, the chief of a Comanche Tribe. During a raid, the tribe captures a Texas boy named Eli McCullough (Jacob Lofland, of Mud and Justified), whom Toshaway raises as his own. As Elis new family is decimated, he eventually finds himself without a home. He strikes out to make his fortune, forging one of the richest ranch-and-oil dynasties in America. Eli eventually grows up to be Brosnan.
Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan.

As long as it’s not an Obama-raised son.
Isn’t it cultural appropriation for a Sioux to play a Comanche? Sheesh, they’re not even in the same language family! Where are the protests?
No. In that case it would be an Obama-reared son.
Speaking of which, How long is that Boys Only vacation going to run? And why is there no media wall to wall?
Hanzee Dent is the survivor fro Fargo last season.
Longmire fan here. Not familiar with his other work
Interesting that a 50 year old actor is playing the father of a 63 year old actor.
Funny how 8 long, dreadful years of conditioning will do that to you. I had to read the article before I figured out it is about “Omaha-raised actor Zahn McClarnon,” not an “Obama-raised son.” The mind continues to play awful tricks.
Distinctive-looking gent.
Thanks for posting this. Without your post, I wouldn’t have heard about this new AMC show. It looks quite promising.
ASIDE #1 (slightly OT): I continue to be impressed and am amazed with new technology. Not many years ago, I would have missed the first episode, would have had to wait for “reruns” (remember those?), or hoped it might have found its way onto a VHS tape at the local “video store.”
Now, I just brought up the AMC app on my Apple TV 4 and there it was, front and center, in beautiful HD (no 4K here yet). I’ve got 122 days left to watch S1E1, “First Son of Texas.”
I remember a decade or more of discussion of the pending arrival of “video on demand” and “flat screen TVs” and the on-going debate “Is the Internet the ‘Information Superhighway?” The brilliant technical wizards and manufacturing geniuses made this a reality in only 10 to 20 years. Just think of all the different systems that come together to make all this work!
ASIDE #2. I just added a Network Attached Storage (NAS) system with two 6 TB drives in a RAID array. Storage has gotten so cheap now that you can build your own private “Netflix” to make your own video collection available online at any time, anywhere. Amazing stuff!
I thought that is what it said at first.
Love Longmire. Sorry this will be the last season.
I just finished watching the two hour premier, and enjoyed it. I recognized McClarnon right away as I’ve watched all the seasons of Longmire, Fargo, and The Red Road. I’m going to miss Longmire when it ends next season.
I hadn’t heard that
