You started out like you "got it", but ... lost it.

The world has a number of bully-states, including Syria. But more problematic are Iran and North Korea. So, Trump has to make a point and get all the bullies to pay attention. Does he go around and smack them all? No. He sends Tillerson out to say, The time for talking is over. Which puts North Korea and Iran, and the rest of the world, on notice. Including China and Russia. Then Assad pops off. So Trump sends a shot across the bow of Syria, but his real targets are Iran and North Korea.

Trump repeatedly said during the campaign he wouldn't telegraph his intentions. Did anybody hear Trump running around saying, Oh, you better stop that, or you're gonna make me mad! No! Trump just kicked Assad in the nuts. And the rest of the bullies saw it. THAT is what really happened.
