Ryan Marchand, the 14-year-old boy hit by a car in Metairie Monday evening, died Tuesday night, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Ryan had been hospitalized at University Medical Center in New Orleans since he was gravely injured in the accident, which occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of West Metairie Avenue and North Starrett Road, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.
He was riding a skateboard when an unidentified, 29-year-old woman hit him on westbound West Metairie Avenue. The woman told deputies she didn't immediately realized she'd struck a person.
The woman stopped after hitting something in the roadway, Fortunato said. That's when she saw Ryan in the nearby drainage canal, where he landed after the impact. Several others stopped to help Ryan before he was transported to University Medical Center.

BTW, there was no indication of any negligence on the part of the driver so she was not cited or charged.
Odds she was on the phone, texting, or drunk.

If she wasn’t cited, that is unlikely.
I have seen how skateboarders act — as if they are invulnerable and own the road.
I know where my money is on who was responsible for this tragedy.
Or the kid appeared between a couple of cars .
Must be amazing to be so sure of yourself.
14 years old - No common sense when it comes to roadways. More likely the kid’s fault. Most of the time when kids do stupid things they have no consequences occasionally the results are tragic. Since the skateboarder was running his skateboard in a public thoroughfare which already shows a lack of sense, I’d say it’s more likely the kid’s fault.
With something as serious as this I’m sure the cops would have checked the Ladies phone along with the standard sobriety tests.
It wasn't that I thought I was invincible. It was that adrenaline was pulsing through my veins because I was in a tough place.
Lucky I am not dead.
That said, my comment was a statement on my experience of late, still biking (32 years later). Have been nearly hit on numerous occasions. Folks on the phone or texting.
And I now live in a small town in South Georgia.
Those kids are so fast and they are not aware of traffic patterns, what to watch for, etc. No brakes either. Isn’t that too bad?
The sun was in her eyes.
That’s possible if she was headed west.
Odds she was on the phone, texting, or drunk.

She was driving down a 4 lane divided highway (speed limit 35). There is a footbridge across the canal and crosswalks near the intersection. If the kid was in the crosswalk, perhaps the decision should have gone the other way; if he wasn’t then there was probably a good outcome.
Not so. Skate boarders are shockingly stupid and careless, even by Leftist standards. Deer and armadillos pay more attention to traffic than 12 year olds on a skate board.
I almost took one out on a state highway, out in the country, just over the crest of a hill, at 11:00 PM. I was doing 55, the limit, brights on. All I got from the kid was an offended glare, as I locked up the brakes and dodged into the other lane...
You know me, right?
You've been following me, right?
You've got me figured out, right?
Sad outcome.
Worse, it's near 7 pm at the time of the collision, meaning it was near twilight when normal seeing is most difficult.
Sad death, for sure, but where were his parents and why was he out on the streets that late at night?
Yeah, chicken. That’s what I am.
You know me, right?
You’ve been following me, right?
You’ve got me figured out, right?
