An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is likely Wednesday across much of the Southeast, continuing northward along and west of the Appalachians into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. This will include supercell development with a risk for tornadoes, some of which will be strong and long-lived, particularly across the Southeast. Large to very large hail and damaging straight-line winds also appear likely.

Remember it well. My SIL had both houses destroyed either side of her. She survived. Slept in the tub with her dogs. Nurse at the local hospital. She was traumatized. She’s originally from Cali.

Shouldn’t be too bad here in Dayton proper. The outlying towns tend to get hit harder.
A bit of caution & preparedness doesn’t hurt, however.
Another thing....LISTEN to the scanner and NOT TV. Sure, watch radar provided, but the EMS signals reveal sooooo much more than that.

Tuscaloosa is always in the ‘corridor’ as well. My SIL and college BFF and family live there. The systems ALWAYS feed on rivers. Moisture and heat. Flat land as well.
OMGosh . . . poor lady. I remember years gone by in the closet and the power goes out and the kids were very young and they keep asking “why are we in the closet, Momma” and you feel so helpless. Hate tornadoes and little did I know when we moved here it was Tornado Alley of the South. argh.
Near miss to me 6 years ago. 1/2 mile south. That was a bad year. Same year we had a waterspout in the lake in early October. (Huron)

Our farm was hit that day but what saved us was the funnel not quite making it to the ground. The winds underneath did plenty of damage though. Our house wasn't damaged but everything else was.
Our local TEA Party group set up a donation station for a county in AL that we "adopted". While Hubby and some buddies cleaned up our mess, I helped man the station. A guy loaned us his tractor-trailer and we had that trailer packed solid when we hauled everything to AL.
Being able to help people who'd lost everything helped me keep some sanity among the mess here. But I really don't want a repeat of any of that for any of us. Praying hard that tomorrow turns out to be better than they predict.
The 1989 tornado hit a school but no one was injured. The teachers had got them to safety in the school. They are very scary.
My daughter is at Bama and they haven’t cancelled classes.
