A New Jersey family fed up with getting creepy notes about their "young blood" is seeking to demolish the spooky home coveted by a mysterious figure known as "The Watcher."
The anonymous letter-writing weirdo has pestered Derek and Maria Broaddus with eerie messages since they purchased the six-bedroom house for nearly $1.4 million in 2014, according to the family.
...
The Broaddus' filed suit against the town of Westfield after its planning board rejected their plan to raze the house and subdivide the land so they could build two houses. They say they can't live in the house because of the letters and their attorney says they're caught in a situation they didn't ask for.
...
My grandfather watched the house in the 1920s and my father watched in the 1960s. It is now my time, a letter read. I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming.
Some of the letters have been particularly sinister.
Who has the bedrooms facing the street?" one read. "Ill know as soon as you move in.
It will help me to know who is in which bedroom then I can plan better.

Sheesh, sounds like a movie of the week in the making.
Just seed the lawn with some “bouncing betty’s”
Of course, the owners themselves could be the source of the letters...
Probably someone on the planning board...
At least they weren’t getting phone calls from The Wiper.
Maybe they are writing the letters themselves
“At least they werent getting phone calls from The Wiper.”
You mean The Viper :-)
Dear Watcher:
Good! Me and Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson will be looking forward
to your final visit to our bedroom and await it with
“loaded” breath.
Sincerely,
Insomniac Ida
“f course, the owners themselves could be the source of the letters..”
Be a good trick since the letters have been coming since 1920 or so to different owners.
It’s a beautiful house; would be awful to tear it down.
Some states do have rules about the seller needing to disclose anything extraordinarily unpleasant about the house...
After years, I can’t figure out why they can’t catch the person doing this.
I didn’t see that letters have been coming that long; only that the current owner, and the owner before them, received letters. It’s the ‘watcher’ who claims that he and his family have been ‘watching’ since the 1920s...
Really? I didn’t catch that from the article. But that would be very interesting.
Open all mail with rubber gloves. Next one, take it in for analysis. Betcha the creep’s finger prints are on file. possibly his DNA.
There are some nice infrared scopes that could be used to scan the area a random times at night.

This is pretty much the plot of last season’s American Horror Story.
“It’s a beautiful house, would be awful to tear it down.”
I agree. This is a personal pet peeve of mine.
I’m a fan of “Urban Exploration” and I love to watch YouTube videos of people exploring old abandoned houses.
I would love to be financially able to purchase an older house & restore it. The older, the better.
Older homes have so much more character & charm than today’s modern “McMansions”. It angers me to see so many older homes left to rot or be demolished by developers to build a strip mall or something equally as stupid.
I have little sympathy for this couple.
I agree with you. I like old houses best; the only ‘modern’ exceptions are some of the Mid-Century Modern homes, the ones that aren’t too stark.
Agreed, some of the mid-century moderns are beautiful & unique.
